Peugeot P 18 (1983)

In 1983, I purchased a new Peugeot P 18 bicycle directly from Peugeot. The specs can be found on this link:

https://mysite.verizon.net/imagelib/s...tiou&title=P19

Could someone on this forum venture a guess as to what this bicycle would be worth today? It is practically like new, since I don't remember riding it. If it was ever used, i would guess five short rides to be the max.

Looking forward to hearing your estimates! Much thanks!

Depending on the condition and where you sell it. There were UO-8 mixte bikes on ebay going for way too much. This one is a better bike from the factory, so ebay should be the way to do it. I would not even venture a guess

Really need a picture of your bike. Its all about condition. As a minimum, if it has been sitting for 27 years, it will need all of the consumables replaced/rehabbed: bearings, tires, tubes, cables, housings and grease. A novice buyer might overlook this, an experienced buyer will discount it accordingly. I have a 1985 P18 myself. But the condition of the frame is critical: paint, scratches, scrapes, any rust, and so on. Also any rust on fasteners? Storage conditions?

Also, where are you located? In certain hot markets, mixtes bring top dollar.

Update: Well, I just sold my 1986, and the 1985 should go shortly. So go local.

There are 2 actually. The second one is in NJ and is sitting at $125 with no bids and a $250 BIN (with $150 shipping and an ALL CAPS DESCRIPTION ) and a frankened ratty UO-8 that ain't moving anywhere @$450 BIN.

will post photos soon...

Thank you both for your informative comments! I will certainly post some photos on here very soon and will be interested to know your evaluation then!

I have not looked at it closely in a very long time. it has been hanging on hooks in our garage for about 20 years! I do not know if it has rust anywhere or if there are scratches, etc. I tend to take very good care of my stuff, but time has a way of causing deterioration in spite of precautions sometimes

I am in northern New Jersey. I am not sure that i want to sell it; but was just wondering what it was worth. I am not even sure what it sold for in 1983! I was told that I was getting an employee discount in 1983, but I have no way of knowing for sure!

Thanks again and will get back with photos soon.

I'm not sure how many photos i can upload at a time, but here's a start. After looking it over, i am thinking it is in pretty good shape. There are a few scratches to the paint in places, but it doesn't look rusty or in terrible condition otherwise. It needs to be cleaned up; there's grease on the chrome/alloy and i don't want to use anything on it that will harm the finish, so I have not done anything with it. Is there something in particular on this bicycle that you would like to see a photo of, in order to assess it better?

Peugeot mixtes have sold for insane prices in the past. In reality, I think they're worth $50-150 depending o condition and features. If you take it off the hooks and sell it as is without cleaning you'll get $50, if you clean it, put air in the tires and make it presentable you could get $150 on your local Craigslist.

I can get $150 all day long for Peugeot mixtes in Tamapa.

is it okay for a novice to attempt to clean a Peugeot that hasn't been used in ages?

thanks for your comment! is there anything recommended by knowledgeable Peugeot owners for cleaning handlebars, wheels, spokes? to remove grease, in general?

Cleaning it has really nothing to do with it being a Peugeot. Start with Simple Green. Avoid anything abrasive. Enjoy.

Auction just ended, $127.50. It was a bike that could have been sold locally for at least that amount, without the fees and hassles associated with ebay.

I didnt see the auction but I'd never sell an inexpensive bike on Ebay. Its not worth the time it takes write and ad, sell it, answer questions, package it and ship it.

+10 Jim is right. I have avoided selling lower end bikes on ebay ($150 to $300 price range) for this reason. I saw some mixtes go really high, so I thought their might be an exception for them. But recent sales have been at prices LOWER than what they could have been sold for locally in a decent market.
