This bike has been professionally tuned up and is in fine working order.
I really like it but have no idea what a decent price range would be.
Any suggestions?

It is a Grand Record, not Grand Sport. Vitus 179. You missed the Reynolds 531 model with Campy by a couple of years. As is and in that size, I'd say $150-200

That's not much out of line, I guess. If it really fits and everything is ready to go $250 is ok. Hard to find bikes that size, if it fits. I would use the fact that new tires are required to get a discount. These are nice bikes and you cannot go wrong with it if it fits. Plus he will have a hard time finding another tall seller to sell to. If you go there with cash in hand, you will get a discount. Don't argue price on e-mail/phone. Just look at it, see if it fits, see the condition and if all checks, make an offer in person.

+1 Bargain in person. Email negotiations don't work. Take cash with you.

I think price is high, given large size and condition (overall, really good, but needs attention). I would use both as negotiating tools and get it down to $200 or less.

If it fits, go to see it...
The seller is much more likely to accept a counter-offer in person.
(I went out to see a bike yesterday, and the seller gave me a 50% discount, without so much as a word from me .)

- But even if he does not accept a counter offer, I would suggest you buy it anyway - Nice bikes like that are not all that common.
