Tell me about a Miyata 718a...

I know nothing about Miyata's, other than a Two Ten, 1000, and 1200.

I'm looking at one...$200.

Nice guy. Nice bike. Just wondering if I can hot rod it.

I can't tell you a ton about the bike. I had one briefly this Spring but it was a little big for me so I had to let it go. Sold it for $275 in nice shape.

Here she is.

I see it's a triple, found an old T-Mar post. I'm going to see it tonight. If it's my size, I may pick it up.
A triple would come in handy for some western NC riding, and the rack would be handly, also.

If it has biopace chinarings it'll never shift right in the front. The FD inner cage plate interfears with the middle ring. To avoid this the FD needs to mounted excessivly high which causes the chain to drag on the back of the FD cage when in the small ring.

Dump the middle Biopace ring and lower the FD so it clears the the big ring by the width of a nickle.

Looked at it today. I like the frame. Some of the graphics are identical to the triangles and squiggles on the '88 Ironman. Identical. 54cm. After trying to ride a 54cm Prestige, Lemans RS, Schwinn 564, Trek 560, I'm pretty sure I can't ride it. 54x54, too, so too short.

Nice bike, OEM. Aluminum lugs, bonded to the tubes. Very light, nice chro-mo fork (lugged crown). Has the OEM Shimano Mountain LX 48/38/28 crankset and long-cage Mountain LX RD. Looks like the FD is the same as the RSX. Exage hubs, calipers. I could really do a number on it, move it to Tiagra 3x9 and modern wheels, probably have a triple between 20-21 lbs (OEM 58cm was 21.5)....Alas, not to be.

For want of 2cm....
