What is a cannondale worth that is an 87
 

I am so green when it comes to cannondale bikes and was looking for any assistance. Here is the info I have. It has nitro on the handlebars, Suntour 3000 on the gears, a part that says only for the derailleur suntour, the serial number is 23092187080. Made in USA. Any help in pricing would be greatly appreciated. The tires are 27" and the tire air valve has some strange connector top and I don't know how to fill with air - any help on this is greatly appreciated. Thank you all for your help.

Where did you get it? Why you selling it?

Go to the vintage Cannondale site and look it up. Without pictures, can't estimate value. Cannondales from that period tended to have really crappy paint, which can depress the value. But if the paint is good, and the bike is ready to ride, it will have good value. I would not call it ready to ride given your description. Even just flat tires can knock $50 to $75 off the price of a bike.

Pictures will help with a price evaluation, but it also helps to tell us if you want to buy it or sell it. Serial number means it's a 23 inch (58cm or so) ST (Sport/Touring) frame built in '87. All ST frames were the same that year, so actual component level and condition would determine value.

It has Suntour and 27" wheels. No additional info is needed. Back in the late 80's ST and SR frames were identicle so in reality it makes no difference.

Similar but not the same. ST frames had slightly more relaxed geometry & longer chain stays, couple of braze ons for racks front and rear, and a third set of bottle holder braze ones on the front of the downtube.

If you mean they were the same within product lines (e.g. higher end models within the ST/SR line used the same frmae but different components), then that is correct. And I must admit that I prefer the Shimano groups over the Suntour groups of that period.

I prefer an ST frame for a daily rider, myself. Just put 150 miles (50 Friday night, 100 on Saturday) on an 87 ST at 24HoB down in Charlotte last weekend.

Cannondale make some excellent bikes even in the 80's. I have a newer one (92) thats a touring bike 24 speed and its worth around $600. I have fixed and sold a lot of road bikes and i would say yours is worth at least $250 if its in good condition, meaning no rust and has good tires and shift nice. If the frame is really lite, like 23 lbs or less it may be worth more. If it feels heavy, like over 27 lbs it probably not worth more then $200. People pay more money the lighter the frame. If it says Champion frame search on the net and find out what bikes that have those frames go for. I sold a lot of road bikes with 27 inch wheels and their good bikes.

Cannondale with Champion on its frame? Can you enlighten me on that one?

I am not sure Champion was on the Cannondales, but it was on the Univegas on upper end bikes. I was just giving you a hint of what to look for on a frame, which would in turn give you more of an idea of its value. The frame specs should be under the seat post. Would help to post pictures
