Eddy Merckx Frame
Hi there,
I have recently been shown this bike and am considering purchasing it- I was wondering if anyone knew anything about it, or how much it might be worth? The original fork is still existing, but rusted so the picture shows a new fork.
The bike has been converted into single speed, although it still has original 2-rings chainset, cranks & pedals (which all have some wear & rust on the surface, but doesn't seem to be affecting the ride) and 5-speed rear wheel. Bike is equipped with new yellow Michelin Speedium tyres and a good-quality chain, also has new italian 'Benotto' handlebar tape.
Anyways they are asking for £180 with locks and other bits included... but aparently negotiable. I was thinking it might be worth £100-120.
Can someone please help? This will only be my second bike, and need some solid advice!
Thanks

Its an entry level bike with a fancy name attached to it. Think of it as a marketing deal between Merckx and the builder of bike.
Bike company executive: "Eddy, we'll give 5 pounds for every bike we sell if you let us put yur name on the frame"
Eddy: "Make it 6 and we have a deal."
In reality Eddy probably searched for a company to build bike for him with his name and picture and them. In the U.S. thats a $50-75 bike at best.
