Schwinn LeTour -- what year and how much?
I checked the Schwinn catalogs, and this looks like a 1974 model, based on the paint, decals, Araya rims, chrome fork ends, three-piece cranks, LeTour-branded rear derailleur, and especially the shape of the wheel reflectors (later models had round reflectors); but the serial number is L326354, which would indicate date of manufacture is 1973, month of November. Is this accurate? Also, I'd like to sell it -- what is a fair price? I'm guessing in the range of $100-$150.

+1 $150 in a good market, $100 in a soft market. For that era and level Schwinn, around here, buyers prefer the EF Chicago made stuff. Of course, I have five Asian Schwinns right now, so what do I know?

That bike looks to be in nice condition. If those are alloy rims, I'd vote for $150. You can always lower the price if you don't get a lot of action.

Thanks, guys! They are Araya rims. I'll start at $150 and see what happens. I've had one call on it so far.

A lot depends on the market in the area. Where I am, [ strong demand ] I would start at $225 & would NOT sell it for less than $175.

Well, three weeks later, only one bite at $100, via text message. I countered at $130, also via text, and no response since. I can afford to wait until spring if necessary, though, so I won't sell it so cheaply.

The market around the D has been very depressed since ~July, so I think it would indeed be best to wait until spring to sell it, and (hopefully) get more for it then. (PS- I think you can safely ignore all text offers, low-ball or not: -At least my experience is that it's a 12 YO kid playing around, or at the least, a guaranteed no-show waste of time. YMMV.) |
Thanks for the tip, Auchen. In this case, the text came from an adult male who had contacted me by phone a week prior to the text, so I knew it was genuine.
