Schwinn Traveler - $50?
I have a chance at a Schwinn Traveler, seller doesn't know year or anything. Here are some pictures. He only gave two pics:
Any help appreciated. Thanks!
P.S. His ad mentioned two bikes and the price was $50. Not sure if that was for the pair or each.

The price ($50 for one) wouldn't motivate me to buy, but if it is in good mechanical shape, it is reasonable and fair. As a communter or recreational bike, it is not a bad buy. I would offer him $30-40, but not until I got there and saw the bike. Don't offer over the phone or through an email. Once you are there, it is harder to refuse (plus he may not want to spend additional time with another buyer). The worst they can do is say no and you pay the asking price. Most people just want the bike gone and the cash now.

You gonna eat that?
If it's a bike you want to ride, buy it. If you want to flip it, talk him down or pass. But for a rider, $50 isn't bad. That's a mid-80s model, incidentally.

Really low end bike, but its only $50. If that is what you are looking for, its hard to find anything (other than Xmart crap) for under $50.

1985 Schwinn Traveler
I have a 1986, where I picked up the frame/fork/headset/bb/crankset for $30.
It's a fine riding bike I don't find myself worrying about.

Yes, assuming you are buying it as an end user, and don't mind driving. I drive a lot further than that for deals. Last deal I picked up was 3 hours each way.

3 hours? That's dedication (or addiction ). Is it just me or are do the tires look untrue? BTW, I live in a big craigslist market (D.C.) and go to school in a pretty good seller's market. I think this would easily go for $120-150 if I just took the right pictures. I don't see many bikes in this condition listed for much less.

Prices for bikes are all over the place due to supply & demand in an area . Here, they are pretty high & that bike wouldn't last a day on C'list. As mentioned above, $50 is cheap enough if it is in decent shape. If you wanted it to ride yourself,,, & it was a good fit,, $50 & traveling time is worth it, unless you have a " gas hog !"

Double butted chrome moly frame...nice. Nice crank set. Turkey levers and stem shifters gotta go. Fenders would compliment the rear rack for commuting. New tires? Nashbar has Paselas for $10 each, and Niagara usually has tires as cheap as $6 each. If it is your size, and is what you are looking for, a little road trip might be fun. Just check it over good if you go to look at it, and make sure the wheels aren't too badly out of round...hops, dents, etc.

$50 is not a bad price especially considering that the far heavier Schwinn Varsity's, Collegiate's, Continental's and Suburbans sell for at least $100 around where I live, but I would never consider spending that kind of money for any of those.

It's actually "only" a 1.5 hour drive (45 minutes each way). And the price might only be $25 OBO, but I haven't heard back from the seller in a while. Ad was for two bikes and price was $50 OBO, so maybe I can get away with a $20 bike while spending about $10 on gas getting there.

I don't think you can really go wrong for that. Def 100X better than that Continental

CL ad was a horrible write up:
Title: Bicycles for sale
Description: Men's red racer and women's purple mountain bike $50 OBO.
That was it, I emailed and got the pics. Pics weren't posted on the ad though. Still waiting on seller to respond.
