Viscount - Gran Touring
 

Okay, I've got no working/functional bikes in my stable so the projects/rebuilds that are not my size have to go!

I don't know why I bought this Viscount...all I knew about Viscount was the Death Fork mythos. This bike does NOT have the death fork, rather a chromed steel Tange fork from after Yamaha bought 'em out and post recall.

I kind of didn't want to see this get turned into a fixie, which I guess is why I bought it.

So, I have no idea what to ask for this bike or even where to sell it (Craigslist/eBay etc.).

Mostly, I want it gone and out of the garage. However, I do need to fund a rebuild for my wheel for my road bike (rim/spokes) so I'd like to get something in the neighborhood of fair. I can ship via my FedEx Ground account, but I wouldn't even know where to offer this bike.

Thoughts on Value? Thoughts on where/how to sell it?

Sorry, but you are not going to fund much with that bike. Stem shifters, turkey levers, nutted rear axle, claw RD hanger, all typical features of entry level/slightly above entry level bike. Looks like it needs some minor cleanup, adjustment, whatever. Sell it on local Craigs List. Around here, it might go for $100. Hopefully your market is better.

Bikes at this level rarely do very well on ebay, due to the added cost of shipping. Every once in a while, someone goes bidding crazy, but that is the exception.

I,m the guy who bought your Viscount Gran Touring from your Craigs list ad I guess almost 1 1/2 years ago now. Just wanted to let you guys know that there is a lid for every pot. Once I cleaned up the bike, trued the steel wheels and repacked all the bearing, I had myself a very nice all original bike. Looking at that lack of wear on the components, I think that the bike had very light usage over all those years. Even the decals were in good shape. Its a nice bike for easy tooling around the neighborhood and has gotten many compliments since it looks so good for its age. About two years prior I had restored my original Viscount Gran Touring that was completely void of original parts, and the wrong size but had served me faithfully for about 15 years so when I saw your bike for sale, I knew I had to have it! I just finished restoring a Viscount Aerospace Pro which basically is the same frame with different components so I guess I can be labeled a "Viscount nerd". Thanks, Greg and don't worry, it won't become a fixie!

I would say about a $150 tops if it is nicely tuned fully rebuilt with good rubber, nice seat and new barwrap. As pressented in most markets at this time of year don't expect much more than $100. For lesser bikes to get much more they have to be somewhat interesting great lookers and completely ready to ride with nice rubber and decent alloy wheels.

I actually paid $150 backin 1976 for my first Gran Touring and the "new" yellow Gran Touring isn't for sale anytime soon! Nice to resurrect an old thread. Anyone else out there with an interesting Viscount rebuild/restoration??

Here is the 1976 Viscount Aerospace I restored this summer. It is in near perfect condition. I paid $84 for it and put in another $25 or so. I don't think it is worth much more than I have into it. It will be sold next spring.

That was a great find for $84. It appears to be loaded with original parts including the hard to find pedal dust caps that everyone loses. I hope you find a good home for it! What size is the frame??

The frame is 60.5cm CTC. It is all original except the brake hoods, bar tape and tires. I have the original saddle but wanted a little more comfortable one on it. It had the original half hoods but they were getting brittle so I replaced them. It didn't appear to get much use when I bought it.

It makes you wonder how many really nice, hardly used, neglected 70's bikes are just sitting in someones garage collecting dust that would make a nice addition to someones collection.

They're out there, a couple years back I picked up a 1976 Gitane TdF in amazing condition from it's original owner who hadn't ridden it in more than 15 years.

It was a bit too small for me and I needed cash so I put it on E-bay and made good money on it but sadly the buyer parted it out :(

I would imagine there are alot, but thanks to Pawn Stars, and American pickers everyone thinks every old thing in their garage is worth $1000.
