What would a 95 8 speed record group with wheels be worth?
Hi all
I am wondering what a 1995 8 speed groupo with Shamal tubular wheels would be worth. It is on a bike I want but i have another campy group that I can use and I dont ride tubulars. Here are the the details:
Shifters: Campagnolo Record Titanium 8 Speed
Brake Levers: Campagnolo Record Titanium 8 Speed
Front Der: Campagnolo Record 8 Speed Braze On
Rear Der: Campagnolo Record Titanium 8 Speed
Crankset: Campagnolo Titanium 8 Speed 175 mm 53 - 39
BB: Campagnolo Record
Cassette: Campagnolo Record 8 Speed 12 - 21
Chain: Campagnolo Record C9 (9 Speed, but works on 8 Speed)
Brakes: Campagnolo Record
Wheelset: Campagnolo Shamal 700C Tubular
Tires: Deda Olimpico
Skewers: Campagnolo
I have no pics as this is on a bike that I don't own and I don't want to tip my hand.
thanks
Jim

you could always get pics and photo shop out the bike name. condition is everything. selling the group with the wheels may be tough as not just everybdy likes tubulars.

Understood. let's just assume they are in very very good condition for now. Which from the pics they look to be. Unfortunately I can't upload them in full size.
I could always pull out the wheels and sell them separately.

The selling of these as a group is uncommon. Last one I looked at was a while ago, it went for $350. if I remember on ebay and was in great shape. It did not have wheels but did include hubs. Your group has a pretty close ratio cassette, which may or may not help.
Wheels are problematic, the cost of shipping almost always holds back the price.
I think tubulars are a good thing, but I am in a minority.
I have an ergo 8 set up on a bike, I think I would have to be planning on being very competitive to pop for the additional 3.
The other factor is that ergo 8 is really dropping or has been almost dropped from support by Campagnolo. This could be a problem or a benefit in selling the ensemble.
Almost forgot, the ti cog set is if in good shape worth much more than the steel cogs, and requires a different freehub body than the steel cogs too. I learned this lesson long ago, I have one set of wheels with ti and another with steel and never shall the cogs transfer. I ended up buying a lone hub to make my cogs work.

Thanks repechage. that helps and not far off from what I would expect. I am not sure this is a titanium cassette, could just be 8 speed. The person selling the bike has a unrealistic vision of its value.

Dropped
It took me 2 minutes to find the bike you're looking at. We're professionals here.
I think those Shamals could sell for $300-$400, conservatively...likely more. Look at the completed auctions for other Campy Record 8 speed stuff: https://completed.shop.ebay.com/i.htm...4.l1513&_pgn=1
So, figure well over repechage's estimate. However, he's right that selling components as a complete group drops the aggregate price significantly, as does selling the group on a bike.
As far as the value of the bike you're looking at? I'm not sure. What are other comparable frames selling for? I'm thinking $1000+? There are a couple members knowledgeable about them. Search the forum for posts about that specific frame and PM the guy's name that pops up the most. He might be willing to give you his estimate.
I'd agree, however, that if you have no interest in the group, it's a steep price. On the other hand, if you have the time and inclination you could probably make back a good chunk of it.

I have not looked at prices recently, from the search they appear to be all over the map, no logic from a quick review. But that appears to be ebay recently. There are other factors too, threading type and crank length. As you pointed out, the parts if sold a la carte will probably fetch more.

Thanks all for your help but it is probably a moot point the guy rejected what I thought was an overly generous offer. See if anyone else makes an offer and buys it.
