I've been looking for a nice frame to have repainted and make it a "keeper".

I looked at this DX3000 about a month ago. It is a 1988. The owner was in the military and stationed in Hawaii for some of the time that he rode it. Has been through training and a couple centuries. Seems mechanically sound.

Has two issues really. The cranks are coated with a fuzzy, white texture. Can't be certain whether it is corrosion or possibly the clear anodized coating coming off. Maybe Easy Off Oven Cleaner?

The other issue is the two large touchups on the top tube. No issue if I'm going to have it painted. There are no dents or dings.

It is Tange 2 with all 105 components. Tange 2, I believe is more than light enough for my "currently" 220 lb. frame. I want to get below 200 this year, but that still is a lot of weight for super lightweight tubing to handle.

Anyways, I'm interested in comments and opinions on the clean up.

The seller was at $225 a month ago and now is willing to let me have it for $125.00

Let me know what you think. Does this one have the potential that I think it does?http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=198595http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=198596http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=198597

Thanks!

tange 2 and shimano 105 for $125 wouldn't last a day here in the bay area.. buy it!

The touch ups were probably from the handlebars swinging back and forth on a repair stand. For $125 that is a great buy.

The photos are not all that great but in the second photo, what is that small line across the downtube, just where the lug ends? Residue from tape? Could the front have suffered a collision?

buy it. if the frame is indeed a bust, you have $125 worth of components.

My DX-2000 is my best riding bike, and it's been pretty well beat up.

I see what you are looking at. I don't remember any evidence of damage when I looked at it the first time. I will look closely at that when I go to get it. I think I'm convinced. The cranks will surely clean up. Can't imagine that they are too bad gone given the condition of the rest of the bike. Maybe Shimano had issues with their clear coat or something.

It doesn't look like it was ever left outdoors and the owner is the first owner and he is meticulous about his other bikes, such as his Lemond road bike.
