80's Peugeot Road/Touring bike (Need some information)
So I came across this old Peugeot that looks like it's in fine condition and i've been looking to buy a road bike recently.
Can anyone give me some information on the year of the bike and maybe if it would be a good grab? http://austin.craigslist.org/bik/2350331282.html Appreciate it yall! |
Her in Seattle that would be a good price or a little low with the accessories, about $250 here.

Not at that price.
Its an entry level bike as illustrated by Stem shifters Carbolite 103 tubing Stamped dropouts Pressed crankarms If it was $100 I would say go for it, but there are probably a lot better bikes to get in the $175 area. |

I have a 1984 (I believe) P8 that looks almost exactly the same, but my fork is painted the same burgundy as the frame. Looks like the same Nervar crankset as mine, with a weird BCD. Mine came with forged dropouts though.
Pretty sure you can bargain it down some (only in person is my strategy). If it was for you or someone's first bike, I'd say go for it. If not, I wouldn't throw my money at it, but that's just my personal opinion. Probably because I happened to snag my P8 for $30.... |
Looks like a '85 P8. I picked one up a few years back for $10 in pretty rough shape. If you're interested there are before/after pics here.

http://austin.craigslist.org/bik/2351150092.html I appreciate yalls help Based on the level of bike activity I saw on my last trip to Austin, I'd say that both prices are probably fair for the market. The accessories that come with the Peugeot are definite pluses if you're going to use it for transportation (or you can sell them and probably recoup at least $40 or 50). I paid $140 for a similar bike in Richmond a few years ago, without fenders, rack, or lights, and did not feel ripped off. |
That is a reasonable price for Austin,Texas if the bike is ready to ride.
