Bianchi

A friend of mine found this bike at a local GoodWill store. I don't think it was ever used that much. He would like me to sell it for him because he is not familiar with road bikes. It has SunTour derailleurs and several Ofmega parts.
Could someone please give me a starting price that I should ask for this bike.

Thanks
ARed

the bike is a 1987 Campione de Italia. depending on market and how much someone wants it it could be worth $300 or more. if your friend got it for short money no sense in trying to make it into a retirement nest egg. list it in the forsale threads here for $200 plus shipping and you may make someone very happy. or put it on ebay the same way. if he paid $30 bucks make that the starting price.

I am not a big Modolo brake fan but those '87 were pretty nice bikes. Columbus tubing, Suntour Cyclone and that Campi clone crank.

Every time I check my local Thrift shops for bikes I come up with mid 90's Huffys. I dream of the day I find a bianchi.

Starting at $350? I didn't think CL was an auction site. or are you one of those people who once you list something and get a few phone calls or emails the price goes up?

I simply do not understand people like you. your "friend" got this at goodwill for what $50 maybe $75 right? some 18yo kid across town would love to have that bike, but can only afford to spend $200. you and your greedy "friend" rather than passing a good deal along, and making someone very happy, have to sell it for every last penny you can ring out of it. do you charge extra for putting air in the tires?

While I have found my share of nice bikes at thrift stores over the years, they last a couple of nanoseconds. So unless you are extremely lucky, or make camping out at thrift stores a full time job, you probably will not find one. Before the economy turned to crap, it was a lot easier to find them. But since then, the thrift stores, garage sales, church sales, etc., are mobbed by pickers, looking for anything to turn a buck.

+1 Not only that, but the thrifts (in the Detroit area) have increased their bike prices commensurate with demand, and in a very short timeframe. In 2008, when I first discovered bikes and this forum, I found at Salvation Army a LeTour and a Suburban, each for under $40, which even then seemed high. Now the department store gas-pipe brands are priced at $70-$80; last month a Raleigh Technium was $140.

Errrr What I meant was I would start at $350 and bring the price down if it did not sell.

I wanted to thank you all for your help because it sold and the buyer was thrilled with what he found and it was a perfect fit.

Thanks again
