Steve Bauer Sirocco info
Hi there, apologies in advance if this is the wrong section for this, but I'm really just looking for any info anyone may have on Steve Bauer bikes in general, and the Sirocco in particular. If possible, I'd like to narrow down to a year or range of years but I understand that may not be possible.
I picked up a used Sirocco for $40 (CAD) on Kijiji this past spring and with just new tires, tubes, bar wrap and saddle it's a super-fun first road bike. Also, it's cool as a Canadian myself, to learn about a former pro Canadian (who I believe is now coaching an all-Canadian cycling team?).
The frame and fork both carry stickers labelling them as: CR-Mo SAE 4130
The head-tube has a sticker that says: Made in Taiwan
The components nearly all say Exage Motion on them, and the crank is a Biopace.
It's got down-tube shifters and a 2X6 drive-train.
When I got it home:
Now:
Thanks in advance for any info anyone may have.
Cheers,
Scott

Wondering if I've asked in the wrong area or the wrong way?
Maybe not enough info, or the wrong info ?
Or if there's just very little info available about a small-ish now-defunct Canadian brand ?
Or if it's really a POS that I just happen to love because I don't know any better and you're all protecting my ignorance of the matter by not telling me what a POS I'm so thoroughly enjoying... ?
I appreciate any feedback or info you may have.
Thanks,
Scott

Since you are not asking for an appraisal, you should hit up the main C&V forum.

Well, I think it was a steal at $40. Judging by the components, probably very late 80's. You can find date codes on the back of the components and check them here for a closer date estimate (components are often older than the frame, so if they were manufactured late in the year, it's likely your bike was marketed as the next model year): https://www.vintage-trek.com/component_dates.htm
Sorry I don't know more about the brand, but it sounds like a solid ride. Not a POS by any stretch. Glad you're enjoying it and you did a nice job getting it back in service.

Thanks very much, JunkYard!
I'll check those date-codes and hit-up your link to nail the year down a little closer.
Thanks Tugrul, I'll repost there when I get the chance. I initially posted here to see what it's worth (with no intention of selling as I love riding it) but now I'm just more curious about it's origins.
Cheers!

In Oro you could probably get $150 for it, probably $250 or so in Toronto. Definitely a mid-range model but it looks like it fits and I think that at $40, it is a very very good deal.
Bauer is a living legend and there is a lot of information about his wins all over the net. His races are all over Youtube as well, you should watch a couple of them, his abilities are quite amazing.
A forum member has one of Bauer's old team Merckx bikes in his collection, you can search for it in the main C&V forum.

Great info, thanks Jet!
I've definitely enjoyed getting to know a little about Bauer as I was completely unaware of him prior to finding this bike. Awesome rider for sure! Great to hear that he's still/back in the game, now coaching a Canadian team!!
