1978 Raleigh Competition GS

Hey guys, I'm new to the forum. Just getting back into cycling, and really am interested in either selling, or trading subject bike in for a good woman's bike. It is all original except it is on it's second set of tires. So, the bike does need to have the handlebars rewrapped. I have three pictures I've downloaded to show condition. I just posted the bike on Craigslist (South Jersey). Thanks for any assistance, or guidance.

I suggest $200.00 at best and $150.00 at least. That is a pretty bike BTW! Sometimes I look at used bike prices and ask why. Some want $400.00 for a bike like that. Well, have they looked at https://www.bikesdirect.com/products/road_bikes.htm and compared their steed to a contemporary road selling on bike's direct lately?
If you want to just get rid of it and make someone happy in the process, sell it for $75!

Does the GS refer to Campy Gran Sport? If so, some of those components are becoming harder to buy than the equivalent [Campy] Record. If so, don't be giving that bike away.

People charge what the market will bear, unless they just don't care.

Yes, just about everything on the bike is Campagnolo, the bike weighs less than 20 pounds.

That seems awfully light; have you weighed it? The 1978 Competition GS weight shown for a 23.5" frame in the Raleigh catalog is approximately 24 pounds.

You are correct, I guess after picking up a 30 pound bike, I really felt this one to be significantly lighter. My bad!!

Apples and oranges. A BD bike is a mass produced product with little sex appeal and no soul. Any fool can buy one. A Comp GS is a, comparatively much more difficult item to find. Simple supply and demand.

I sold the same bike for $400 in the dead of winter in Chicago. In summer, I'd get $500.

Needs better pictures, use photobucket or flickr and put full size pictures into your C/L ad. Will sell regardless at that price. Expect it to be reposted in a couple of weeks, with full sized pictures and a higher price.

Google full sized pictures Craigs List and it will walk you through the process.

Good luck!!!
