1979 Motobecane Super Mirage
Hi i found this bike off craigslist for $6. I bought it off a man that said he had saved this bike from the side of the road. I was wondering how much this would cost if I fixed it up to good condition or set it up as single speed to make it easier. it would be great to hear advice and comments.thanks!

I hope you didnt render this to a fixie just yet. It's a fine classic bike and for 6.00.....that speaks for itself. Tires, tubes, cleaning, polishing, check headset/bottom bracket/rear hub bearings, check the brakes with some wheel truing and it's good to go. I have the same bike ('78) and love it for riding casually around town. You shouldnt have more than 75.00 into the bike. That's a good deal.

$6? Geez.
Take it to your LBS, put some tires on it, ditch the reflectors and pie plate and give him $50 for a tune-up and you will likely have yourself a very nice bike for practically speaking, no money....

Don't make it into another trendy singlespeed. Enjoy all 12 or so speeds. It will be a very nice bike for you, great find. Plus if you do decide to pass it on you will most likely get more from a vintage steel road bike enthusiast than a hipster.

Likely a swiss bottom bracket, where converting to SS can be expensive. Keep it the way it is. I've recently had 1978 and 1981 Motobecanes, both had Swiss bb.
