Groene Leeuw Frame/Fork!

Here is a Groene Leeuw frame/fork set, I don't know anything about it. It has been stripped of all paint. It has nice smooth joints and is very light, makes a nice pinging sound when flicked. I have both the frame and fork, both in great shape.

Here's two pictures of the head tube and BB stamping. I'll link some other more detailed photos very soon.

Any opinions or insider knowledge? Not much info on these bikes.

Thanks!

This looks interesting. Can you post a pic of the whole frame?

Yep, just uploaded a bunch of new photos taken this morning. Any knowledge is highly appreciated.

Edit: My original post stated that the frame is very light, which it is....however, the fork is intensely heavy and very robust.

I know it's a strange brand but I think it may have some history to it. The serial # is 0030 which I think may be a sign of it's value. Anybody?

Very nice. Thats a beauty. I just dont have the kmowledge for bikes of that vintage, but can tell thats a high quality frame. I'm guessing 1950's?

Hey thanks! I'm thinking of leaving it just the way it is and having it professionally clear coated by a friend of mine. I love the braze work and the rough metal look that it has. I have considered having track dropouts brazed on but I think I'll stick with the existing dropouts.

I'd like to find out what the stamping means on the BB. Thanks for the input!

Where did you get this frame. Its certainly one of the more unique bikes I've seen on the forum. very unusual and old. Dont alter it. I would look into a paint job. This frame deserves something nice.

I bought this frame from a friend with a nice stem, bb, crankset and seat. I have a certain attachment to the look the frame has right now, I feel that painting it will just cover up the braze work and craftsmanship. And also I don't intend on altering the frame, the track dropout thing was just a phase.

I appreciate your interest and comments, does anyone else know anything?

The crank set is Stronglight cottered, not competition. The headset is a Groene Leeuw. Seat was most definitely not original, a San Marco nice leather model. The stem is from what I can see a Doutje/Boutje/Boutue/Doutue. Here's some pics of the stem, you decide.

I am currently riding a 1968 Groene Leeuw. It was my dad's when he was road racing in the Detroit area back in the early 70's. My uncle also rode these handmade Belgian bikes. I still have many of the original components such as the campy rear derailleur. My brother has the original seat(brooks) and the original handlebars. My dad kept it in great shape through the years and it still rides great. Most, including mine, were dark green with the belgian flag colors(red, black and yellow) painted as detail in many locations on the bike. Enjoy the bike.
