CL find, Vintage Guerciotti

I bought this bike today for $200. I'm a little upset with myself for buying it, I cant find any information about it online. So how did i do? Tell me anything and everything you know:

I think $200 is a good deal on what you've got... nice vintage steel frame in what looks like great condition. Campy group I think is campagnolo victory and that group set usually sells for $150 alone. I would not be upset with that bike... for $200... if it fits you and you can ride you got a great deal... if it doesn't fit... you probably could sell it for more than you paid. I could get about $350 for that bike in my area.

Here's your catalog page
the lower one - GL7300 Triomphe

$200 was a great price, unless you're hiding something from us.
Looks like your rims and/or wheelset has been swapped out for clinchers, but that could have been done at the original sale as well.
Chain and freewheel has been replaced, probably as they wore sometime in the past, too.

Very cool catalog pics. Ill make sure to save those. As for the bike, I guess I didn't take any pictures of the flaws, which are mostly small paint chips. From a distance the bike looks spotless but when you start looking at it these paint chips really show. Mostly because of the yellow under coat.

Is this one of those bikes that it would be ashamed to ride? because im really looking for something I can get into long distance riding with.

I'd say at $200.00 you stole it and since it is a bit chipped up you could ride the wheels off it with no regrets.

Nice find!

Thank you everyone for the great replies. Unfortunately the bike has problems… On mile 4 of my first ride the freewheel ceased.
A local bike shop has a Suntour freewheel that they will put on it for $20, however, I really liked the refined feel of free wheel it has on it now which turned out to be a Regina ORO.

Additionally I noticed that the gears on the catalog look like they have a larger rear gear set than the one that is currently on it... Maybe a bigger free wheel would compliment the bike better? Will going with that Suntour freewheel be a bad idea? What would everyone do in my situation?

I already had a bike shop try to pull up the current freewheel and that was a no-go. It was nice getting tons of compliments on my bike though, this thing is a real head turner in the right crowd.

Welcome to the Bicycle Forums and please do not feel bad about getting such a nice bicycle for such a good price.

I would suggest that you start learning about vintage road bicycles before you, like so many others, start making mistakes with your ownership. That is not a criticism, just an observation of mine after helping hundreds of other people find, own and restore old bicycles. If you take some time to look through the pages of my website, MY "TEN SPEEDS", you should come up to speed with your wonderful old bicycle in fairly short order.

Hope this is a help and enjoy your old bike. By the way, you got it for a very good price.

I like and use my old freewheels (including Suntour & Regina), but to be honest, the modern designs shift better. If you're trying to save money, see if your LBS can come up with a Sunrace that meets your gearing desires. You could even up it to a 7 speed without an issue.

I just wanted to thank you all for all of the information. And randyjawa; as soon as I opened your page I was glued to my computer screen for the next two hours reading over your fascinating stories and marveling over your beautiful bicycles.

I have the Guerciotti back on the road and after a few initial treks I must say that the ride is like nothing I have ever experienced before. I noticed it the second I got on, and while I am at a loss of words to describe the experience I think “refined” would be apt. This bike just feels more “locked in” than anything I have ever ridden before (Which, granted isn’t vary many bikes). Regardless it is a beautiful bike in every way, even the paint has a sheen to it that simply can’t be captured on my camera.

The more I learn, the more I want to collect

Ain't that the truth. Every time I see one of the completed new build thread, I must resist the urge to go make my own.

Put some mile on the Guerciotti first and enjoy the ride!

NO WAY!! that is a very nice bike. cleaned, waxed and tuned that will be a great head turner. once you get used to the feel of the bike and the shifting it will be a great bike for longer rides.
