Early 90's Specialized Sirrus Road Bike

I've been eyeballing a bike like this for about five days. It's listed at $250, but there's just no way I'm paying that much. He says he bought it new in 1995, and that he couldn't ride it because of health reasons. So, best case scenario is that we have a vintage bike that doesn't have a ton of miles on it. Worst-case scenario is that it's not...

Here's a listing of a similar bike on ebay (I'll post the original pic, it's just not very good).

So I'm in an extremely competitive market around the Raleigh area, and this guy clearly isn't getting what he wants. The question is, are these early Sirrus bikes worth me working this guy for a better price?...and if so, in a competitive market, what would you ask?

I have a figure in my head, but want to see how close it is to you all, or if I'm way off base.

it looks like a tall bike would it fit you? in Raleigh this is not a good time of year to get a premium price. is it close? go take a look and check it out. if the rims do not have alot of wear odds are it is very low milage. however I am not sure i would fork over 250 for a uber low milage RX100 bike. take 200 with you but stand firm at 175. infact leave 25 in the car in small bills and quaters so if your smitten and it goes that high it looks like you are giving your last few bucks for it

It will definitely fit me. Your money figures are definitely in my ballpark...just trying to make sure that I'm not going to fire this guy up right out of the gate. I also want to make sure that it's worth the value.

I would think this is the perfect time to buy a bike, with winter upon us...am I wrong?

I have him down to 175 right now...but I've not seen the bike. If it's ready to ride, would you all do 175, and if it's not, 150 (of course, depending on how not ready to ride it is).

The pics are terrible...and the derailleurs and crank are on the other side...so...could be more issues than meet the eye...

Wrk is exactly on point - top end value with great marketing and photos MIGHT be $250 (I think $225ish for RX100 and $250 for 105).

With his marketing and effort? $150 - $175.

Agreed. $175 is a pretty fair price, I wouldn't feel too bad paying that. $250 would not be out of the ballpark, all cleaned up and properly presented.

alright...I'm going in with 150...with the idea that I'd be okay to pay 175...

If there is rust on the thing...I'll walk...

I want something with minimal work...

In a word "Yes" If you looking for a sport tourer light duty racing bike. I believe post-'90 there was a slight change in the geometry from hard core racing angles to something slightly more relaxed. The '87 to '90's are the Sirruses that are most desirable for racing..

If you looking for a Sirrus and it's you size I'd try to haggle him down $50 to $100 from his price.
