Please help find info about Fondriest / Cromor / Snimano 600 tricolor bicycle

Hi,

I turn to you guys with a question about this bicycle that I bought recently for my father. I'm not asking about its price, I'd just like to know as much as possible about it - like possible year of manufacture or some interesting things about Fondriest bicycles / frames from the era of this bicycle. Thanks.

It's a 60cm Fondriest made of Columbus Cromor, equipped with almost full Shimano 600 tricolor (dual pivot brake calipers BR-6403, FD-6401, RD-6400, 7 speed DT shifters, 7 speed cassette and rear hub) and Campagnolo headset. Not sure if the wheels are original, but the rims are Mavic CXP-12 so they might be original.

assuming the 600 parts are original I would say this dates to '91? daul pivot brakes and DT shifters were a shortlived combination for 600.

I believe this is the Fondriest the name refers to. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maurizio_Fondriest

they are not very common here in the US

Agreed, this particular mix of 600 Ultegra would be 1991. However, given the Camapagnolo headset, it may have been built up from a frame or had the components swapped. As such, the frame could be newer or older than 1991. I can't identify the headset, but the color of the lower cup reminds be of the powder coated Xenon group, which was circa 1989 to 1991.

Edit: I be curious to know the natural spacing of the rear dropouts, without the wheel in place (i.e. is it 130mm forced down to 126mm)?

I wonder if it could be some "economy" version with the DT shifters instead of more expensive STI.

The headset seems to be plastic-coated. No gruppo designation, only "Campagnolo Brev. Made in italy." on the top nut.

Thanks for your replies.
