DeRosa
Looking for an appraisal. Looking for something semi decent to do the ms150 in, possibly keep if I get into more distance riding, but also something that would hold its value. This guy is a bike flipper, I recognize his ads, but this is a lovely looking bike
he emailed me offering to sell it for $600 after seeing my 'wanted' ad.
DeRosa.
Size 56.cm
Hand built lugged steel frame.
Shimano 9 speed STI shifters.
Brakes and rear derailleur shimano Sante. These parts were made to last forever and were better than the top of the range parts in the day. They are still super high quality in today's standard and very desirable.
Bike is fully restored with new paint, cables & housing, bar tape, bearings and tires.
Mavic Wheels
Can be re powder coated if you don't like the color but will not come with decals.
Bike is ready to ride with nothing to spend.
Sell. $1000.OBO --

I like the Sante group (where'd the FD go?), and that's worth some some, but I can't believe DeRosa would put a front fork decal on that way. Makes me suspicious.

If that's real, it's worth well over $600. But that bike doesn't look right to me.

Doubt that it's a DeRosa.
All things considered, it's a $300-$400 lugged steel bike. Don't count on this "holding any value". Could be difficult to resell.

The bike might be a De Rosa but I am skeptical as well, does he have a photo of the fork crown?
Clearly, it is a repaint and the sticker on the fork is upside down.
He has had that bike listed for months now. I believe it started at $1200.

Until the seller can prove it's a DeRosa it is a generic lugged steel bike in my book. Still, the components and wheels are quite nice. Probably rides great.
Given the wild card frame I would ask the seller to put the bike on a scale, or bring my own scale and weigh it based on that. If it's in the 20lb range I'd be pretty interested.

That's funny...I always use the opposite tactic. No rush, no pressure and it will sell if it sells. I think buyers respect that approach more and you're less likely to have issues down the ride (like buyer remorse).

So, I would buy it for what I know it is. Which is a lugged steel bike with some very nice components and wheels.

I think I'd figure out what I thought the components were worth, add $100 for the frame and offer him whatever that totals to.

Take a pass, it's too suspicious! DeRosa's usually have engraved marks, and the parts are very entry level!

Sante and 600 is pretty entry level to me also and I don't run Super Record but have Campy on three of my four road bikes. It just looks completely thrown together. The frame just doesn't seem right. Not all steel DeRosa's use panto'd seat caps as they also used a fastback setup on the Primatos models also. Though on the frames with fastback seat stays it was on some what newer frames that had a front derailleur hanger and a pump peg? Not to mention they normally used an internal cable routing on the top tube on those also.

It has DeRosa graphics.
I find it very questionable.
