I have lead on a Moto Grand touring likely early 80's with decent components and Vitas 888 tubing. I'm wondering if this might be a worthy project. What I'm really interested in is finding out about the tubing I'm not firmly with it. Is this are a high end frame or just something with a fancy tubing label and name.

I have dated my Grand Touring to an 84 with the 888 Vitus, and I like it. The frame is stiff and solid and surprisingly light weight. Don't pay too much for it unless it is in perfect condition, they made a lot of them. The one I got only had about a hundred miles on it from the original owner.

Just realize the bb is likely Swiss threaded. If the bb is in good condition, that does not matter. If it needs replacement, there are only a couple options out there right now: IRD or Phil Wood.

Could be Swiss threaded, mine is not. Most of the top of the line Motobecanes used French threading - the Grand designation on the model were the topline ones. French threading is right handed (normal) on both sides, the Swiss is left handed on one side. The Swiss BB was a tough one anyway, not always necessary to replace it if it has been properly maintained over the years. If it moves smoothly and easily without clicks or wobbles - just clean it up and use the BB it came with.

My Grand Jubile is swiss threaded. Depends on how early in 1980s you are. By 1984, most of the swiss stuff was gone. But I have had a 1982 and a 1979, both had swiss threading. Worthy project for sure!
