Cannondale Beast of the East 9000? CL appraisal

Would someone mind commenting on this particular bike? Seller wants $500 saying they paid $1000 for it new 10 years ago. I tried to explain I could get a nicer, newer bike for $500 today. I'm trying to help out a friend find an older, cheaper bike to just tool around on. I offered $150 and they came back with $350.

Thoughts?

First off, it's more like 15 years old. I think you would be doing alright on it for $200. Take into account that it will need a good once over.

Your friend wants to find an older, cheaper, bike to just tool around on. Why not look for bikes in the $100, $150 max range.

$350 is still quite a bit high even considering the great condition. As far as older rigid MTBs go, there are lots of good choices out there and this one is nothing amazing that makes it deserve that price. $250 would be fair.

Agreed. $100-150 can buy some pretty decent older rigid MTBs. Not necessary to get such a nice one in pristine condition for "just riding around."
