Did I make a good deal?!

Hi,

I'm new to this forum but in the last couple of weeks I've been looking at a lot of posts to find mechanic info and advice.

So I found that bike in an non profit organization that ship bikes to south america. They sold it to me instead of shipping it to the south, since they are more in the look for solid mountain bike instead of road bikes.

I paid 300$ and I had to replace the front wheel (Total of 125 extra for the wheel.) Rest of it is in great shape : didn't had to make much of a tuneup: breaks are fine, back wheel was straight, speeds work good, seat post is not stuck. I bought some pedals too at 30$ since I don't like the clip looks pedals that came with it.

I tried to find the year and model if the bike but I am not sure about it. The bike is very lite all tho its a steel bike.

Campagnolo gear : Rear and frond derailleur, rear and front cassette, break levers, handlebars, sifter, breaks and back wheel.
Chromed back triangle and fork.
Marinoni of course :)

Some rust spots. Some chips in the paint. Don't know yet if there is something to do with the rust.
Thanks for watching!

That's a swell deal for $300 - what kind of tubing? On the other had, $125 for a front wheel!!!

lovely bike ,good deal ,enjoy it.You might want to turn those bars so the hoods are little closer.

Thanks for the comments!

I think I have double butted steel tubes.
Price for the front wheel included tire and tube in Canada. (I don't know yet how to mount a wheel from parts, so got to pay the full price)

If I mount the bar up more, I get the impression to fall down when I put my hands on the lower part :(

Sweet bike :thumb:

On the front wheel, I think You could have got a whole set of wheels for $125, a matching set.. With the campy goods, you got a nice bike..

You made a good deal nicer high end frame with mostly original campy with lighter wear. The Alex rim is small issue it is a very good replacement for the original.

Welcome to the Bike Forums and you got a very good deal. True, you might have found a wheel set for less but so what? You are learning. In spite of what some of us say, we have all paid a bit much for something at one time or another.

Ride that lovely old Marinoni. I have owned several, including my Marinoni Squadra and my keeper, a 1976 Marinoni "Quebec" (my own nick name for that bike)...

It seems that I will have to gain some experience into finding cheep replacement parts, there's some way to save money :) I'll read Randy's website to learn more, really good resource.

I love my bike. Been riding it in Montreal yesterday, three 30 minutes rides and its a pure enjoyment! The bike is fast, gear changing is smooth and easy, the bike is stiff and precise. I'm really happy with my choice :) Only issue is the Bike Attitude pedals that I bought : they are not very tight to their axle and there is a metal noise every time I shake the bike. They make the bike sound old and brooked.

But now that I am in love with vintage bikes, I'm eager to find an old single speed for the winter now :)

I took some pics of my GF`s Ferrari.
She bought the bike in 2006 for 180$ and she put about 120$ of repairs on it.

Your bike looks awesome. You got a great deal.

Your girlfriend's bike is probably not a Colnago as the sticker says. Not sure what it is, but it looks like it's aluminum.

Giuseppe Marinoni is one of the best :thumb:

Thanks,

What do you think my GF have?

The tubing decal on the seat tube near the top tube is Columbus. What does it say?

Regardless of the tube set, you did very well for $300. It almost makes up for the expensive wheel.

THe frame looks like it could be a Vitus 979.

How can I save on wheels and tire? :)

Sorry for the flash

Might be true, but not this particular model.

Not sure. Maybe a Vitus, but definitely not a Colnago.
