PX10 Mess

All original early-mid 70's PX-10E with bent FD of unknown functionality, completely trashed wheelset, broken freewheel, some seemingly cancerous rust spots the size of a pencil eraser on the top tube that are visible in the pic. Rust around the frame pump pins - maybe superficial. Brooks is trashed. No pedals. Some decals torn or missing.

How much?

I'm thinking like $80-$100 tops - or not worth my time at all - but maybe there would be a reason to pay more?

I've been through this. The frame is huge, it will be extremely hard to flip. Do you want to spend about $300 to restore it for yourself? If yes, then proceed. If you do want to get it for yourself, first make sure of these things:
1. If the seat post is seized, don't get it. The 26.4mm seat tube is very expensive to repair if cracked. If you do somehow get the seat post to move freely, you're doing well. If the seat tube is goofed up, you'll need to have it honed, pretty expensive.
2. The front derailleur is pretty much unobtainium. You'll need to get an all metal Peugeot branded Simplex, or a Super LJ. Very spendy!
3. The wheelset should be evaluated for restoration. If it's Maillard, I would hesitate. If it's Campagnolo, it's probably worth it.
4. Inspect the frame closely: if it's this trashed, you might find a crack, esp. around the lugs.
5. If the rear derailleur is goofed, you really should consider getting a new one. They have the S001 for cheap at Harris.

HTH!

Thinking more like $8-$10. And it's French...

Assuming seat post and stem are not stuck, and you own (or have access) to a Stronglight puller: $75 to $100. Stem, seat post, handlebars, brake levers and calipers, crankset, combined are worth more than that. And perhaps the bb and hs are OK. Plus harvest some random cable clamps, and maybe someone on the list will want the fork (even if it is bent).

Hubs and skewers would be another harvest plus. Note, while the parts are worth more than my estimate, you have the time and hassle to harvest.

The hubs are Normandy but not as nice as the ones that came on my Moto of the same era.

I am going to sit back and see if he's willing to go really low. He has another px10 frame that, if combined with the proper parts from the white bike, would be a good one but not for me because of size. Its got new japanese hubs/wheels, patched in 80s suntour FD, and new bars and stem. Problem with that one is that he wants $300 for it.

$300 is cheap for that bike. It appears to be good to go. If you could get the both for $300-$350 you could make a super killing.

It's in pretty good shape but the photo definitely makes it look better than it is. The color/size combo did make me feel like I shouldn't let it go...

Both bikes are grossly under-priced. As Thrift Bill points out, the components alone make it a win, and if the rust is superficial, then it's a huge win because fancy Nervex lugged PX10 frames command big bucks. Blue ones even more so.

PS- They both appear to be the same 58cm size. - IME, that is the median size most people seek.

Go for the package deal, if you have the time/tools/aptitude. Looks like a deal to me. PX10s are very desirable.

Where some see a mess, I see a deal..

+100

I'm pretty sure I've seen average condition PX10 framesets gofor $400+ on ebay. $300 is a steal for the blue bike. $100 is still a good deal for the white one. The parts are worth it.

I'd love to get a PX10 for myself but I've seen what they go for. When I save up some money, maybe. But for now I'll just be jealous that you have a shot at a decent blue one for $300.
