87 Mercian KOM (or Racing bike with KOM appointments)
Months ago I became the proud owner of a Mercian, courtesy of my LBS. They didn't know what they had, and neither did I. I bough it for a song, but I've had to put a little money in it (chain, new headset, brake pads, wheel truing, etc.). I replaced all cables, rewrapped the bars, replaced the BB, new tires that sort of thing.
The point is, the bike is a bit too large for me. You know how you're at that beginning phase when you don't really have a clue that the top bar "matters" with regard to comfort? Well, that's me. And this bike doesn't fit me. I love it, it's gorgeous and the mystique is wonderful. But I'd be better off selling it and getting a bike that fits.
So I'm going to post a few photos, and see if some of you will tell me what it can be SOLD for. I see Mercians on eBay all the time at crazy high prices, but I never see them actually selling for those prices. I want to sell this one for what somebody will give that will actually ride it. I can't give it away of course, and I'd be stupid to sell it for what I have in it (what's the fun in getting a great deal if you can't make a little dough and trade up?).
Oh, one other thing. These photos no longer do it justice. It's been totally disassembled, cleaned, and touched up with a perfect match of paint where needed. Each aluminum part was cleaned thoroughly and polished delicately. The bike needs nothing. The brooks on the bike would not go with it, nor would the pedals. I have the original pedals and seat and both are near perfect.
Thanks.
Bill

That's a beauty. I love Mercians, and I love that color scheme.
A lot of value would depend on where you're selling (Ebay, CL, or other?). A well listed Ebay auction with good photos and description, and from a seller with perfect feedback (as a seller) should bring $600-800, I'd guess? CL or other outlets would bring less.
Are you certain that it's too small for you? If the saddle height in the photos works for you, it looks like it would be in the ball park?
Mercian is an amazing resource for high end traditional road bikes. Unfortunately (or fortunately, if you're a buyer), they don't tend to sell for as much as they're "worth," if you know what I mean.
Best of luck!
