1980's Fuji Absolute VS. 1970's Fuji Special Road Racer?

Hey All,

First time post, but you have been such an amazing community to find information from I had to ask. I am a first time bike rider and wanted to get in for under $200. I was advised to go with a mid-70's through mid-80's Japanese model. They recommended some brands and models. These two came up recently on Craigslist and I don't know what to do. I don't have serial numbers on the two bikes, but the Absolute is being sold by a shop owner and he has tuned it up. While the S-10s is just some dude in North Hollywood who apparently hasn't tuned the bike up, but says it's "rideable." I live in Burbank, CA to give you an idea of the market. Any questions I will try to answer as quickly as possible. But any help/advice you can give me would be great, especially fast. I am hoping to make a purchase this weekend. Links follow.

"Tune up" seems to mean new brake cables and handlebar tape. New grease, bearings, oil, and other maintenance issues should be addressed. I prefer the Fuji as it looks nicer. Price is okay but the Fuji also seems to be willing to go lower.

I'd buy the Absolute, better condition, newer. Wheels don't match on the S-10S. And it looks like a Fuji I am overhauling currently. Not very lightweight.

I am surprised either is still available. In your low price range in a hot market like LA, you have three choices: get knowledgeable, get lucky, or get taken.

Older Fuji is going to take a lot of work. Are you up to it??

Please don't confuse ebay "asking" prices with "selling" prices. Many sellers never get their ask price. some are far from it. Value is determined once an item actually SELLS. Its easy enough to check SOLD prices.
