It appears to be a 1984 peugeot P6, which was the bottom of the line, lightweight model.

I had one which was very similar to yours, P8 , Carbolite 103 tubing , pretty nice feel to it . I'd put the value of yours at $75 , give or take a few bucks . Looks like it needs some TLC.

I agree early 80's Pug good core condition Frame and paint look good, complete and component look OK. This bike is realy only worth $100 in most markets. I would suggest that you buy some bar wrap and tires and just keep and ride it.

Actually, if the paint is very good or better, a fully reconditioned Pug, with new bearings, tires, tubes, bar tape, cables/housing, brake hoods, cleaned, polished, and tuned, can exceed $200 in a major urban or collegiate market, but not during the winter months.

Lower end, needs TLC. It could sell for about $75 around here.

At that age the BB threading could be French, English, or possibly Swiss. You'll have to open it up and see, or maybe someone could say for sure.

Either way, why replace the BB? Are the bearings bad? I'd just get a new left crank arm, repack the BB with fresh grease and call it a day.

Your 6th photo says Stronglight. The cranksets can be found on ebay, but they are not inexpensive and the Stronglight puller is $50 because it is a non-standard size. Read below too.

Seriously, maybe you should find a new bike that's not all French?

its not my main bike, been in the garage for quite some time, and seeing how this is not a high value bike and not something that gets ridden around alot im going to convert it to a single speed. ive always wanted to mess around with one and see what all that hipster hype is about haha.

You need a Stronglight specific crank puller, not a standard Park or Pedros.

That era Stronglight takes a standard 22 puller I believe. Pre about 1979, 23.35 for Stronglight cranks. 1979 and on, all SL cranks stock on Pugs were 22. Try that first.

If the puller threads are stripped (the pedal ones were), you might try a tie rod remover:

available at auto parts stores. Stick between crank arm and bottom bracket cups and start banging.

Or, ride the bike around the block a bunch times and see if it works loose. Hard w/o a pedal, but consider this future reference. If you do this, don't ride too far from home.

My guess is bottom bracket is English thread. Just a semi edumacated guess, based on experience with pugs.

Peugeot was using French and Swiss bottom brackets in the early eighties and transitioned to British / standard bottom brackets in 1986 so bicycles built after this date will or should have British bottom brackets.

Odds are high that this French made Peugeot probably has a French bottom bracket.

In the late 70's Procycle of Canada started building Peugeots under license and was distributing them to the U.S. in 1983 onwards although Peugeots were still being built in France and for a time they were built in Spain to meet excessive production demands that Peugeot (France) could not meet.

The eighties Carbolite frames and forks are very nice and these bicycles are very nice to ride although the parts specs can be a little quirky and confusing.

Decal set is right in the transition period from Swiss to English, which I have never precisely been able to nail down.

I'd suppose either Swiss or English on the BB threading. French is a possibility, but rather remote.

Crude tape measure measurements tell us very little. If you've already scrapped the old BB, the only way to tell now is to test fit BBs of English, French, and Swiss threading until you find a winner.

When you removed the old bottom bracket, did the fixed cup (on the drive side, that is the side where the chain is) screw in the normal way (you turned counter clockwise to loosen) or was it reverse threaded (you turned clockwise to loosen)?

That will help you figure out if it was "French thread".

Time to dig out what remains of the old bb, or the frame, and take it to your favorite bike shop. Don't buy anything until you know positively what threading you have on that bb.
