French Peugeot - nothing fancy

Pictures of an old orange Peugeot for your consideration.
This has been in the basement long enough to get dusty.
Another garage sale find.
Some people....

I though my wife would ride it but she won't, and I don't trust the kids to take it to Toronto, where it would be stolen within hours.
Any ideas of the vintage and approximate value in a warm market ?

Really, Really nice. And in Orange. Thats a sweet bike. I sold one similar last year at a bike swap meet for $175. Thats what I would ask for it.

I sold a bunch of these to coeds, professors, and marketing types in NYC. Mixtes bring big money. Early 1970's U0-18, looks to be in VG original condition. Probably could use new tires, brake pads, and cable terminations before remarketing. If overhauled and ready-to-ride, $275-$300. Take off up to $75-$100 if not overhauled.

Any ideas about these other, newer ones ?? I have to find some of those "coeds, professors, and marketing types" you were talking about.

I think T-Mar says you live east of Toronto? Does the train that runs along 401 allow bikes? If not it would helps if you can deliver into Toronto.

When I sell in NJ I'm about 35 minutes from the tunnels or GW bridge, but half the sales are to Brooklyn or Manhattanites. Some have access to cars or Zipcars. For those that don't have a vehicle, I offer to meet them on my side of the Hudson River in Hoboken or Fort Lee. They've done everything but swim across to buy what I have to sell. I'm not the cheapest, but each bike is completely overhauled. It takes patience, great photos, and no BS.

I was going to post a before and after example, but suddenly picasaweb has changed to plus.google.com and I think I am f**Ked.

Yes it does. There is even a car in the train with a silhouette of a bicycle beside the door and suggested parking inside. Bikes travel for free and are welcome on the trains except for rush-hour. I am living in close proximity to "The City Canada Revolves Around" and my experience has been similar to yours: Everything but swim !! As long as the bikes are like these ones, its a pleasure to play with them and I get to meet some very nice people. And their friends. And sometimes their mothers and fathers, too.

Driving into Toronto is an experience not to be repeated unless absolutely necessary. Toronto has the worst highways and the worst traffic in Ontario, if not all of North America.

Whenever I am passing through to or from the Adirondacks (4-5 times annually) I always try to clear Toronto before 3:00 pm. Otherwise it can add 2 hours to my trip. What I don't get is how y'all are hooked on Tim Horton's coffee?

Value on the Sprite and newer PUG mixte about $250 +/- 10%.

Timmy's coffee ?? Never touch the stuff.

I agree about the Sprite & Sport mixtes. Which is amazing when you consider that it is possible to buy a Made in China, low-end, "Presto 700" from a department store for $370 plus tax ... about the same price as a used Bianchi or Miele.

Wow! You guys get that kind of money for a mixte? I had a beautiful Bottecchia mixte that I thought would bring some good money. Even swapped out the wheels to alloy rims. Had a heck of a time getting $100. Different markets I guess.

Yeah. We are talking the volatile Toronto and New York markets.

No doubt your Bottecchia would have been better received in Chicago, Aurora or Rockford.

I'm in suburban Chicago. Sold many mixte's, but never over $175.

Most of these were in the $125 range. And I sat on them for a while to get that. Schwinn was the exception,$200. But I also sunk a lot of money into it.

I hope you didn't call the Schwinn a Mixte because it isn't!

Here's one I sold to a cosmetics director of marketing, $295. I took the rusty wheels off and substituted a set from a Spalding Blade, which I resold at break even.

Before

After

Here's a Motobecane Mirage, sold for $275 for an art director's GF.
