Mid 80's Specialized Allez SE, what would you pay?
A local bicycle co-op has this for sale. A mid 80's Specialized Allez SE that is almost original. Having a Shimano 105 rear derailleur, associated thumb shifter, and brake levers in place of what would have been Suntour Superbe (Pro?). Otherwise in excellent condition, and a perfect fit, coming in a hard-to-swallow price for a flipper: $300.
Ideally I'd like to come away making a profit even if I restore its missing parts and decide to flip it. Not sure what the final worth would be, though. The only current reference is $1800 asked, not near reality.
What would you pay, for a keeper, for a flip?

As a keeper, $200 to $300, absolute tops and half that, or less, for flipping. Of course, that information could be miles off since I do not know where the bike is and location has a lot to do with value.

I do not think $300 is unreasonable unless you are in a soft market. It may be high for a flip but there's probably someone out out there willing to pay $300 for it as a rider. Given the time of year, unless the seller is desperate, it's not too much to hold onto it for another month until the buying season really heats up. They are very nice frames and circa 1985 Superbe Pro is excellent equipment.

There's another one on ebay, BIN for $450, still available. The $1800 price is pure dreamland.

I used to have one like that and still miss it. I'd pay $300 as a keeper, but not if I was going to flip it. Even then, I'd offer 200-something and probably settle on $250-ish.

Thanks guys. This is a relatively hot market, and there are other buyers interested, so I'm going to have to play hardball.
