Unidentified Bike w/ Campagnolo Components

Seller doesn't know anything about the bike unfortunately. Thought I would turn to you guys for more information and thoughts on the asking price of $250. Also, consider that the market is in Montana so not a lot of stuff comes through here.

Thoughts?

I think I see a Reynolds 531 sticker on the seat tube, which would fit with the components.

It's too bad how rough the paint is, and that no decals are left. Still, as a keeper I might pay $250. This was a really high end bike in its day, possibly top of the line. Assuming the stem and seatpost are free I'd probably go for it. It looks like it's my size!

However, if you are willing to risk it, let it sit on C/L for a couple weeks and then offer the guy $150 cash in person. If you are in a small market this bike might take a while to sell.

$250 might still ba a bit too high for most to pay for that bike, because of its marginal finish and lack of identification (some people might not event be convinced it's a 531 frame unless you have good proof of identity on the bike and it's model). With those components, I'm feeling more like right at 200 bucks, max....but if you part that thing out, you might actually get close to doubling that figure easy, especially if the parts are in very good shape. A Cinelli bar of that vintage will easily sell at at least 100 bucks at eBay if it looks close to new condition.

If it fits (big if), the post and stem aren't seized, and wheels are true, I'd buy it. If it were for sale here in Chicago, I'd buy it for the parts alone.

Looks like it might be a Geoffrey Butler to me, but would better photo, as well as seat post diameter and threading.

This is a photo of my old GB:

Best of luck!

From the nicks/chips in the paint, this looks like a poor-quality red repaint over what was originally a white-painted frame. Maybe if you carefully remove the red paint, you'll find some indicators of what make/model it once was...

The lugs look to be the same shape/pattern as bibliobob's GB, but the fork rake is quite different. The rest of the details are lost in the dark full-bike pic.

This appears to be a high end, boom era bicycle. The workmanship on the frame does appear to be consistent with the level of components, so it probably is Reynolds 531 or equivalent. Provided the stem and post and siezed and the bearings are shot, it's worth $250. However, it does require work. It's set up very poorly. Be aware that you're going to require a special puller for that crankset.

from photo of full machine the seat cluster looks as though it may be a brampton victor which would tend to imply a british origin...

appears it might date from the 1970-72 time...

Its gonna take some work to make it look nice. But if your into making money, I agree that those parts in good condition should fetch a descent profit.
