Univega Gran Premio; worth it?
I am heading out to look at a this Gran Premio, for $200. I still need to investigate condition (looks to need some elbow grease), but I don't know if the quality of the later taiwan models are still considered good like the gran premio from the earlier 1980's.
What's your opinion?

I picked up a Gran Premio last fall for $80. It has Suntour Sprint components which is pretty nice stuff. I swapped out the brake calipers, brake levers, headset and bottom bracket for another build that I wanted to be all Sprint. I replaced the swapped parts with nice components. It had some really crappy pedals and cheap saddle that I am upgrading. The bike and components are in excellent condition. It was made in Japan. Once I finish rebuilding it (hopefully this week) I will probably be listing it for around $275 and see if there is any interest. I live in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area where the market is pretty hot.

Looks late 80s ,yes? I have an 86 or so GP...nice bIke, 700c, Suntour Sprint, nice clean lug work...even a lifetime warranty on the frame! The one linked by the OP may be as nice or nicer, once cleaned and rebuilt. May be harsh but I'd say the seller on that one ought to be happy doubling or tripling his money for $30.

The bike needs a new chain and some elbow grease. Tires are good, have a diferent seat for it.got it for 150 which iwls good for me because a bike that fits is worth more. I might look at the jubilee and see if it is flippable, but the gran premio will be a nicer bike for its relative modernity. It has 500ex gruppo but a campy rear derailluer...record of some sort, forgot what kind, need to look. I can probably get 100 for my 87 bianch strada

So one member found a Gran Premio for $80 but the OP bought one for $150. What is a good price to pay for one? I saw one for $115 in decent condition (7/10).

I bought the one for $80 which was a steal because of the nice components and it was in great shape. I would pay $115 (offer $90/$100) for one assuming it had nice components.
