Is this a fair trade

I have a fuji 10 sport>>>https://newjersey.craigslist.org/bik/4008184339.html and I was offered a trade for a trek 800>>https://mail-attachment.googleuserco...HZUQTF3ts4evOY, is this a fair trade? I intend to get thinner tires like 650c or 700c and use this as my grocery getter.

Does the trek fit you? If so, seems reasonable if you want a mountain bike, although the pics of the trek aren't working

That's a fair trade IMHO. Trek 800 is a good frame, that is a 16.5" or 18" frame, looks to be in good condition. Don't get new wheels, just 26 X 1.5" tires and tubes. They'll do fine on the crappy roads of Morris County!

I agree, I think that's a reasonable trade.

+1 don't waste your money on different wheels. Just get narrower slick tires.

How would those tires handle some dirt?

Dirt is fine, mud and grass are a different story. Check out the Kenda K841C, that is smooth with knobs on the sidewalls when you're in the soft stuff. But they are wider so slower.

Looking at what you've shown me I think I'm going to get these https://www.amazon.com/Kenda-V-Cut-Bi...pr_product_top being that the treads look similar but this one is thinner which would keep it quicker

650c (650b actually) and 700c refer to the wheel diameter not the tire width. The trek is designed for 26" wheels and switching them to 650b or 700c isn't really feasible. The brakes won't work, and that's if you have enough frame clearance to put the wheels in there. Anyway, it looks like a fair trade. There are lots of descent tires for mixed use out there. I like WTB pathways, they hook up on dirt pretty well while also rolling well. I just ordered 2 in the 26x2.0 size today. They are on sale with an extra 20% off: https://www.nashbar.com/bikes/Product...33_-1___202470

Sounds like a very reasonable trade that both could benefit from provided the bikes are good fits for each rider and one wants a fairly nice vintage MTB and the other wants decent vintage road bike. This could be a very good way for both parties walk away better off.

I've got a rear rack that will fit the 800 and would do the swap, but not in Caldwell for a week. Put up a pick of the Sprite, don't want no dog!
