I think it's worth it, I think it's awesome, but I think it's hard to sell a bike like that on CL.

Great bike.

Last one sold locally was about $650 without ebay.

It was my son's and he didn't get enough for it.

I think that would only be the value if perfect condition. Maybe 1/2 that as is. Or less.

I want one BAD and I would not give $700 for that one. It is throttled. I would expect it to be bent somewhere.

I never understand how people can be so careless with their bikes. When I look at used bikes, especially mid-high end ones, and they are all dinged and beat up, it makes me sad. I have low end bikes that I have had for years without a scratch, certainly no rust or dents. I understand some scratches from locking them up but but most are beat up from flat out abuse or neglect. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised considering what people do to their cars...but still

Zips are kinda fragile if you want to actually ride MTB IMO. $900.00 buys a he// of a lot of used MTB , and that's not it. I have a 93 MB3 frameset that is arguably better suited, functionally better IMO , just as nice riding and I can not give away for $110.00. People are stupid.

Normally I'd agree bill, but almost all of these were ridden hard and they're so unusual that they sell high anyway. It's a really unique, special bike - it's not a standard production MTB.

He's asking $650 on Ebay.

That's a pretty beat up bike. He might get the $650 he's asking on Ebay just because it's rare. I think the electrical tape on the shifter will hold the price back though.

No way. There was a pretty nice looking one that sat on the local C/L at $700 for A YEAR. I think I saw it at the Madison bike swap, probably still didn't sell.

That's just one data point, but $900 for that beat-to-hell example is insane.

An MB-Zip is a old rigid MTB. It is also a very rare, very high end, iconic bike with the Bridgestone halo. Those contradictory things mean they can go for $500 or for $1200. Depends on where sold, condition and presentation.

CL is a real tough place to sell any bike over $500, but on eBay with its broad and international audience, expensive bikes get sold high. Condition of this example is actually not bad, other than the stem I don't see anything non original about it. The scratches and scuffs are fairly minor. But it is dirty and unloved, which hurts value. And the photos are terrible, not even close ups of the drivetrain or key parts of the frame.

Well cleaned, well photographed, with a better stem and minus the fender, on eBay, I think this bike could fetch $1K. As is on CL, maybe $500, eventually.

By the way: at least 2250 were made, roughly 1000 per year for two years. This is the first year, the decals changed for the second year. In the second year, the crank was Mavic, the shifters Suntour XC. I like the second year bikes better for that reason. I have a second year Zip. It is a great bike, crazy light, fast. They were mostly bought by racers, ridden very hard, and many were broken (often chainstay right by the BB).

I agree with Bill, dreamland. Lucky for the seller there are still dreamers out there. Personally, it has too many negatives including scrapes, missing original parts, etc. to be of much interest.

I also think this one should be priced lower around $300. The poor condition really kills the collectors value making it just a somewhat interesting older mountain bike.

With such a wealth of cool vintage mountain bikes out there for way less money, I can't see dropping that kind of money for that. I think it's all hype about a certain, unnamed guy. Just my opinion here, no offense intended to Bridgestone MB lovers, they are cool.

Great bike, may worth that to a asian collector, but to me its about 300 overpriced. Looks to be first generation Dura ace and Sugino components. In my opinion chro-mo is kind of an in the middle frame material, behind Reynolds, Columbus and Tange, but better than gas pipe

We do have a high-end demographic here (I am not one of those, lol) But this guy kicks out some cool stuff and does a coherent presentation. The Onward decal looks kinda aftermarket ...but hey...

Selling high end on CL is a raging PITA , you have to credit him for that. It took me six months to sell my Trek 2200 and I got blasted and stalked by prozak zombies

this one was up for a while a year or so ago and didn't sell. I don't think he will get the asking price for it. I'd list it in nyc if I was him. Selling anything in CT for over $150 takes forever.

Yeah I know. I exchanged 327 emails with a guy over a brand new, unridden 40.00 MTB wheel . Then he goes and buys a Sta-tru for his "custom sport bike" that has... "thousands of miles in rough terrain".

He is an engineer at Pratt. He goes: "I drive technology". (sigh.)

Give me a break, You'd think he could afford a Peter White, with all the wars we are fighting right now . jeez.

Speaking of asian collectors, I met a Joe The Plumber guy who sold a curb scrounged PX-10 frame for 900.00 to Japan.

That same guy also has a nice Fuji Newest that he was calling a Japanese Colnago. It's still for sale, but he dropped the Colnago in the title of his ad.
