1995 Fuji Roubaix ------Too small but worth it for components?
Hey guys,
I read another thread about stripping mid 1990's bikes to get a good all around ride with good components for a good price. I am looking to do just that and have been looking to find a good steel road bike to ride. Yesterday, I stumbled upon a 1995 Fuji Roubaix with shimano 105 everything and looks to be in very good condition (seller also said the bike was ms150 ready so I'm assuming its well kept/ recently tuned).
He is asking 150 for it and I would jump on the opportunity however I am 6'0" and think I would need something around 56-58cm and this bike is 54 cm. So the stand over height difference would be about 2" or so I think and I don't want to buy it if A) I can't ride it myself comfortably or B) I won't be able to strip the bike and sell the frame for my money back and use the components to build up a new bike.
Is this bike worth it even if it's too small? Do you think I could ride it comfortably? If not, do you think I could sell just the frame for a decent amount? It seems like a good deal for this bike.
Anyways, let me know what you think! I would really appreciate the input!

Frame is not worth much. I had the same bike that I stripped for the components. I held onto the frame until I had some decent DT shifter components, rebuilt it with that, and resold the frame as a complete bike. I've done this a far amount of time on donor bikes where the frame is in good presentable condition.

If the shifters work , the 105 set is worth the $150, but I would just buy a larger bike (~58cm) , and be done with it .

I would pass on this one buying a semi project that doesn't fit on the qeuss worth of used components is a tough as nails road to go down most bike guy's have tried and many tears and dollars have been shedded with little or no return at the end.

Thanks everyone for all the replies. I will pass on this deal as it seems like way too much work for outdated components. I'll keep looking for used bikes my size with quality components. Thanks again

I'm a little surprised by the replies. Sounds like a good deal to me; of course you'd have to assess the condition in person.
OK it's only 7 speed but that's plenty for most purposes, it's a solid group set and a decent set of wheels. Swapping the parts to a different frame is no big deal if you do it yourself.

Actually, it is 8 speed. As far as recouping the purchase price by selling just the frame set? That's a non-starter. First, mid 1990s Fujis don't get much love. Secondly, its a TiG welded bike. Third, by 1995, it was made in Taiwan (Fujis made in Japan bring more). Figure $50+/- for the frame.
Buying bikes that don't fit for parts are best suited for someone with the time/tools/aptitude to do all the work themselves. If the OP is such a person, by all means, buy it. Need to make sure the shifters work, thats the weak point of that purchase.
The economics on the 1995 Fuji Robaix I picked up worked out well for me because I had a destination for all the parts. Wheels went onto my 1992 Paramount Series 5, new Michelin tires went onto my Katakura Silk, 105 bits went onto a Cannondale I upgraded and sold. Then I took the RX100 DT drivetrain off the Cannondale, and put it on the Fuji. At that point, I had two nice bikes that I sold, along with some parts for the personal fleet. This process was a fair amount of work, but I came out way ahead $$ wise. And I bought the Fuji right.
I got a nice note from the buyer of the Fuji a year later after he completed RAGBRAI. Bike performed flawlessly.
In my market, Cannondales with STI do quite well, whereas a 17 year old Fuji with STI would bring about half.

I actually started another thread today about the bike I ultimately purchased. It is a 1987-1988 Specialized Sirrus with full 105. I got it for a pretty good price so I already got the bike I need. Granted converting from 7 speed DT shifters to STI would be nice but those stupid shifters are hard to find and on ebay go for more than I paid for the bike and I have no problem with the DT shifters anyways.
