Miki sakai road bike
anyone who can I.D this frame? i cant seem to accurately identify which model this frame belongs. i thinks its a sakai 4000 but i'm not really sure.
fork - Tange
Frame - Parker Process MIKI SAKAI (base on decals)
Crankset - Shimano 600
Rims - araya
rear Drop out - Shimano EF (upon researching i learned that 4000's should have and SF. can anyone verify?)
front drop out - no signs of brand name (research told me that it should have a tange TF)
Headset - tange AR-202
hoping someone could tell me what model this frame is. i'm pretty sure it was manufactured in 1981. i just want to know what model it is, since there aren't any decals left to tell me what model it is. and i looks different from other 4000's i have seen in pictures posted online. the lugs are different from my point of view

Hi Flublu,
thanks for posting the pictures of the Miki frame.
From the seat tube and head tube lugs I don't think that it is a Sekai brand, model 4000.
Miki of Sakai, Japan built frames for several brand name sold in North America, Europe, and Ausatralia.
Can you post a picture of the serial number on the BB shell? This can sometimes be used to identify the frame.

yep. that's what i also thought. i saw pictures of sekai frames and their tube lugs are different compared to mine. so it made me doubt about the brand of my frame. so i posted it here in bike forums to make sure whether what brand and model it is. yep i have a picture of the serial number. thanks for the reply tho

flublu, I have seen your post in the Sekai database thread also.
The serial number stamping on the BB shell is the same font and location as other Miki serial numbers. So the Miki Sakai Parker Process decal is not out of place.
Your Miki frame is a mystery to me as to which brand name it is from. The seat tube lug looks average quality and is a mismatch for the fork and rear dropouts which look higher quality.
I assume that you are in the USA, so the brand possibilities that I know of are: Centurion, Sekai, and Shogun.
The Miki built many Centurion models for several years. I have never seen a Centurion with a Parker Process decal.
The Shogun models that I have seen are the 300 and 500. These did not have stamped dropouts.
The Canadian possibilities are the Rocky Mountain Bicycle Sherpa model and Sakai the house brand of Bloor Cycles in Toronto. But I have not seen any of these that match your frame.
Do you know any history of the frame or previous owners? I am thinking the frame may have been brought over from Europe or Australia.
Edit:
Another USA brand possibility is Lotus. Some Lotus serial numbers have the Miki format.

That is definitely interesting, and I am inclined to agree with hummer about that not being a Sekai or a Sakai (the brands), I know of no Sekai with that DT. There are some similarities to a 4000 though, if you'd like to compare here's Don Gillies article with lots of good info.

FWIW, SR or SR Racing is another brand that had most of their bikes built by Miki.
I've collected 11 serial numbers from various posts on BF and 8 were Miki's format.
