Ishiwata Si35 triple butted cromo tubing on a Fuji
Bike looks to be right size for me. I'm hoping for an english threaded bottom bracket.
what is the quality of this tubing compared to reynolds 531? There are quite a few discussions in the forums about ishiwata and tange but I found very little about these tubesets from the 90s, mostly info on 70s and 80s tubes.
I'm moving away from a reynolds frame that is too small and am trying to a mostly lateral move as opposed to a big downgrade.
Frame is on CL for $60 I would try and get it for 30 expecting 40 or 50. Seems like a good deal regardless for a frame that fits, but I dont want a clunker

The Ace was an OK but mid level bike.

Well constructed great riding but just mid level frame. I would likely pass on this one the fork doesn't look right could be bent or a replacement or just the pic so I would want to see a wheel on it before I brought it. I have actually brought a wheel with tire when checking out frames like this one.

There is very little info about si35 tubing. I have the feather tubing on a fuji made touring bike from 1990nand went thru the depths of the internet looking for specs but came up pretty much empty.
speculation time-
there were multiple versions of si35 tubing. I say this because it would be dumb to have the same tubing on a 64cm touring bike as a 56cm road bike. Based on ishiwata's tubing history, there would have been some thinner and some thicker si35 feather tubes.
again, just speculation since there doesnt seem to be any spec sheets out there.
I mention different guage tubes because 531 was the same way. 531ST, 531ATB, etc.
531 could be made into a light road bike or a heavy early on mountain bike. Totally different styles, tubes, and weight- but same 3 numbers.

Also this is a deceptively huge frame which could be a big plus or minus depending on your size. With the fairly aggressive late 80's geometry and xl long top line it would be for a rider 6"3 +.

so it may be too big, but I like to put bars that sweep back on my bikes so a longer top tube is fine by me. I'm on 57 tt right now and feels a bit cramped, granted my other bike with 61cm top tube is too long.
I'm looking for the right bowl of porridge.

Ishiwata Si35 appears to have been roughly equivalent to Miyata STB, as both were CrMo, triple butted and splined. However, the Ace is not full Si35, as the stays and forks were hi-tensile steel. Consequently, there would be about a 3/4 to 1 lb weight penalty over a similar size with a high grade tubeset, such as Reynolds 531C. I've always considered these later Aces to be a very low mid-range model, bordering on entry level. The geometry was more sport than race oriented, with a longer wheelbase and relatively slack head angle. At least the OP won't have to put up with the mediocre Blaze components that were OEM on this model.

The guy never emailed me back so its likley not going to happen.
If I do look at it I'll pass if I have to pay anywhere near his asking price given comparable options on CL.

Tire clearance
I am very late to the party, but am posting in case anyone is researching this Fuji Ace. This is an 'fyi'. I have one of these too and got 700x35 to fit, I have a non-stock fork on it and rim width makes a difference. The bike may have had 27"originally, so 700c allowed some room. The brake calipers are small reach Shimano, pre-dual pivot.

Coincidentally, I recently bought this very frame sans fork. I bought it to harvest the head badge for my Fuji Pro. Then I built up the frame with bin parts and posted it FS on CL. I've only recieved one response so I doubt it will sell. Possible candidate for Goodwill.

I'm pretty sure I have a fuji head badge on the head tube of a frame I cut up. If it looks okay, I guess I'll save it. I never think about things like that
