PX-10 Value

I'm trying to help my friend post his '77 PX-10 on CL. He is not a biking guy. I refurbed it 2yrs ago when he found it at one of his rentals. It still has the mafac racers, stronglight, weinmann concaves, 531 decals etc. Paint isnt too bad, normal patina, no rust and 23" frame. He is wanting to know what to ask for it. The rear rim needs truing and hoods for the levers are bad.

Our market up here is soft so he may post it area wide. Any tips on starting price?

Thanx, guys.

Two CL listings in metro Detroit this year and were delisted fast, both priced about $400. If you want help, I can pick it up in mid-July.

IIRC, just a few years ago, nice PX10s were being priced at just under or right at $1K.....
Then the economy blew up and I haven't seen those prices come up again. Much lower now, but the pricing is still a bit squidgy ranging from $350 for the marginal ones, to $800ish for the best/mint examples as these days, people seem to be less willing to forgive the usually less than stellar craftsmanship on the Peugeot, especially compared to its Italian and Japanese contemporaries.
If you are going to sell it, make sure you really clean it up and repair any broken parts or damaged finishes to give it best presentation as condition is everything on this bike.

Thanx guys! My friend is on his own for listing and selling. He is a horsetrader kind of guy so he will do ok. I recommended he ask 425.00 just to see where it goes. I did give him some pointers on pics and description. Maybe he will have it on the Northern Michigan listing by tomorrow or Wednesday.

Most of the ones I have seen listed recently they seem to sell go for $400-500 over that they don't seem to move.

One key thing to me is given that the rear wheel needs truing is will the spoke nipples still turn? Id not I'd devalue by 100-150 to rebuild the wheels.

+1 I would tend to agree on this if it is a simple trueing issue which a moderate level mechanic could correct with a spoke wrench in about 20minutes why hasn't it been corrected. If it requires more yes a rebuild or need of replacement on the wheel or some of the parts would devalue the bike by $100-150.

The wheel is needing professional help or replacement. When I refurbed it for him the back wheel had a huge Whoop-Dee in it. I ended up loosening all spokes and tweaking best I could. Then I tightened spokes little by little and ended up taking it to the LBS for final true. Never did get it perfect but is rideable in terms of brake adjustment. It has Weinmann concave 27" with presta valve holes. Me? I'd buy a donor bike and grab the back wheel.

Unfortently a set of wheels with issues that don't really match the bike well put a hughe ding in price likely $150+.

I'm curious to see how he does. I havent seen his ad yet.

I ended up posting it for him. We'll see how it goes. It still has the original Ideale seat.

Just wanted to put some closure on this thread. A guy from Virginia came through our area that had glimpsed the CL ad and ended up nabbing the PX for 280$. Thanx for the help!
