Would really appreciate info about this red Miyata 710 (from the early 80s?)
Hi BikeForums,
I've inherited this red Miyata 710 from my dad. Unfortunately I can't ask him about it (he passed away in February), and I'd love any info you might have about this bike.
Here are pictures: Red Miyata 710 - Imgur
(It's hanging upside down in the garage, so I've rotated the pictures 180 degrees.)
It's in fantastic condition—I wouldn't say there's a scratch on it. I don't know how many parts are modified vs. original. I remember him having this bike when I was very little, so I'd guess early 80s, but can't be sure.
I need to decide if I should keep this bike. I already have 2 of my own—one's a nice road bike and I live in an apartment with very limited storage—so I'm hoping to get a sense of its actual value to compare that against the sentimental value.
Your help is greatly appreciated! If more photos are needed, I'll be out at the house again on the weekend and could take pictures of specific info/spots on the bike.
Thank you!

Very nice bike! Particularly since you said you like riser handlebars. Not to be pushy, but, if it is your size...and it was your dad's bike...I think you would regret selling it, no matter what you get for it...

Totally agree with this. Over the years, your storage situation will change, but you'll never be able to get that bike back if you let it go.

Thanks for all of your replies. I'll pump the tires next weekend and take it for a spin. I'm only an inch or two taller than he was, so it's probably the right size. I think you're right, I would like to at least defer the decision to avoid possible regret, and I'll store it for at least the winter and see what happens in the spring.

FWIW it looks to me like the shifters and derailleurs, and most the freewheel, were later upgrades. The serial number is usually on the bottom of the bottom bracket shell.
I agree if it fits and was your Dad's it is certainly worth thinking of keeping.
