Help about JC Higgins (?) bike

Hi everyone I want to know about this frame. First of all if the fork belongs to that frame. Second, the serial number is related to JC Higgins or to another brand? I am not really sure and i want some hints about that.

Thanks

Jose Garcia

Welcome to the Forums. As I am sure you know J.C. Higgins was a house brand for Sears before what's his name that ball player. It looks like a '50s or maybe 40s era bike to me but I am sure it was contract built by someone for Sears. The style of the fork looks Schwinnish to me so perhaps it was built by them. The fork also looks bent but it could just be the angle.

40's/50's. That is a Schwinn fork, and it does look bent. As far as I know, a "blade" fork like you have was a Schwinn only thing.

Bianchigirl, Sears sold both JC Higgins and Ted Williams branded bikes at the same time. The "Ted Williams" being the "premium" version. I think Sears bikes were made by Columbia and POSSIBLY Monarch, but I could be wrong about Monarch.

Definetily late 50's, 60s Sears sold frame. The maker went to some lengths to skirt but not violate Schwinns tenative patent on the cantilever frame at the time. Most of these JC frames where made by Murry . A very interesting peice of bike history but not worth much maybe $75 to the right collector.

The Sears named JC Higgins bikes were made by many manufacturers. I couldn't answer who made the standards / balloon's but for the mid-weights, CCM Canada and Steyr Austria. There were some made in France and the UK as well.

This Canadian one looks neat.

Deluxe Frame

I think you have a 50's Deluxe frame there. That Model probably would have had a springer front fork though. Its been a while since I looked into it, but I think Murray and Huffy made those earlier bikes for Sears and Roebuck.

Bikes: No-name LH drive track. Also ride an Exxon Graftek, a Masi, a Trek R200 or a RR Boneshaker for fun!

Guessing early 60's on this one, remembering the earlier head-badges were oval.
Given the poor yet essentially complete condition I think you have at least $100 there as it sits, likely more to the right buyer.
Likely a LOT more if professionally restored. Others who are more familiar with Higgins - chime in!
