Can you name this Gitane?

So I picked up this what I believe is a MID 70's Gitane road bike the other day for $5.

I picked it up for the sole purpose of taking it apart, cleaning it up and putting it back to together. In other words, to learn.

Can anyone tell me what model this is? year?

Can you tell me what it's worth?

Have you consulted the catalogs on gitaneusa.com? Looks to me like a mid-late 70's equivalent of the early 70's GranSport. But that would be the place to check.

looks to be a Royal A-Sport ca. 1975-77. rear mech and pedals not original.

this was the bottom model at this epoch.

Is this something that I should try and sell? Is it worth anything?

or would it be a frame worth stripping down and keeping?

..... and that makes it a great candidate to practice rebuilding bicycles. Bearings, grease, soap, and wax are cheap. Just don't put money into it. Advertise it with an explanation of all the maintenance you put in it... ask whatever it costs at a local bike shops for a overhaul, say $60, take $35; something along those lines. Your target customer is that person looking for a bike as basic transportation. For you, the value lies in the experience you gain.

Very true, I think that's what I'll do. Practice and learn everything I can before I start working on my Rossin.

Thank you everyone
