Olympia Piuma Pearlecent White Sprinter
Have had this hanging in the garage/ shop for the better part of 30 years, it's been well preserved under a thick layer of sawdust.
From what I gather it's a pretty desirable bike to those who like Italian Sprinters
I'm pretty sure it's mostly original, the only changes I made after acquiring were new pedals.
Bike was purchased and is located in Southern Ct.
Would greatly appreciate any comments and possible value.
Thanks in advance!

Cool bike. It would be nice to see a picture of the whole bike. I'm thinking somewhere in the $500 range from what I can see. The crankset alone can fetch upwards of $150 by itself.

thanks very much for sharing this beauty Mr Magoo!
going by the fittings, she appears as if she may date from the 1973-74 time. you can check the date by removing one of the axel locknuts from the bicycle's campagnolo nuovo tipo hubs. there will be a two digit date number on the inner face.
luv that head emblem

Your very welcome juvela!
And a few more pics. I lightly cleaned the dust from the downtube to reveal the white paint.
Thank you.

I found a thread here at the bike forum that was talking about maybe just 50 of these white piuma's imported in 72. Also importers bike shop was/is only about 20 miles from here. I think we're one of the fifty!

Hello Again Mr Magoo,
Thanks for this additional information.
The forum has had a number of threads discussing Olympia bicycles, as it sounds like you have already discovered.
As someone with no knowledge of this maker the head emblem appears to present a question. The name is written "Olimpia" in the seal/crest of the emblem yet the brand name is "Olympia." Wonder if there is an interesting story there? Perhaps the forum's Olympia experts will be able to shed some light...
velobase gives a launch date for the cycle's Campagnolo Sport chainset of 1971, so that fits right in.
VeloBase.com - Component: Campagnolo 3320, Sport
Some readers may wonder how a machine built in 1971 came to be fitted with a Campag Record rear mech. One story goes that the Record was closed out and subsequently reintroduced in a modified form at the request of Teddy Carnielli who wished to use it on one or two models of his bicycles. He and Tullio were reported good pals.
First generation Record rear mech:
VeloBase.com - Component: Campagnolo 1020, Record
Second generation as seen on the present machine:
VeloBase.com - Component: Campagnolo 1020, Record (1965)
Mr Magoo, for a feller with an acute visual challenge you seem to do just fine with your photography!

Wow! Alot of great info juvela, thank you.
I've been inspired to wipe her down a tad, might even put some fresh air in the tubes.

fine job with the lavandation Mr Magoo!
she just keeps looking mo' & mo' beddah.
if you saved that sawdust there may be eno' to cover the floor of a local CT tavern...
what sayeth the writing on the headset locknut, OFMEGA?
suggestion: you may wish to consider removal of the ESGE; it is likely offending the eyes of many readers.
really like the lugset on this machine, does anyone recognise it? crown resembles an Agrati pattern.
thank you for the addditional images.

Bingo! You have good eyes!
I hope I haven't offended anyone with the ESGE will remove promptly (whatever that is?)
The bike is coming along nicely, looking forward to a Sunny day
Thanks again for the guidance

in looking at the photos one safety consideration came to mind.
it appears the cycle was last ridden by someone who is a bit tall for the frame size due to the amount of handlebar stem and seat post which are showing.
for the stem in particular there is a minimum amount of insertion into the bicycle's steerer necessary for safety. try making a mark on it with a crayon or felt tip pen where it disappears into the headset locknut and then withdraw it all the way, takes a 7mm allen key, to see how much you have inserted.
we want to keep you all in one piece so you can continue to enjoy the bicycle!

good to hear you are safety minded Mr Magoo.
we certainly would not wish to have you harm any additional blacktop.
should you require the handlebar higher for fit/comfort one option would be to replace the stem with a taller one such as the Nitto Technomic:
[most users find one to be adequate]
------------
ESGE is a German brand of bicycle accessory. They offer mudguards, racks for carrying things on a bike, brake bridges and...oh yes, kickstands.

I'm learning.. slowly. I can just imagine the horrorover that ESGE lol
So far I'm gathering the bike is fairly rare and has some nice components but not nessesarily
worth a lot of money. Maybe to a small number of collectors it is desirable.
Would it make sense to list it on Ebay with a $500 reserve and see where she goes?
Or polish and ride?
Thank you!

sounds like a good plan.
Or polish and ride?
if the handlebar and seat as seen in the photos are adjusted to you the machine is clearly too small. probably the single most important thing about any bicycle for a given rider is "is it the right size?"
perhaps if you sold it the proceeds could be put toward a machine which is a better fit...
Thank you!

Thank You Daf !
Best I recall a decal in rough shape. Looks like Casper the friendly ghost!
in the pictures there appears to be a ghost image of where an erstwhile transfer lived near the top of the seat tube facing forward. this is typically the spot where a tubing transfer is mounted but the shape of this image does not correspond to any tubing transfer with which i am familiar. perhaps it could be from the shop which sold the bike or possibly it was a transfer mounted at the factory which has gone walkabout. was it like this when the bicycle came to you?

WOW, thanks for this latest image. she is looking fine indeed.
what's that lump of white stuff we can see just off the edge of the path?
appears a bit of atmosphere hath found its way into her tyres.
when you replaced the pedals did you retain the originals? were they something like sheffield brand?
Olympia: "I'm ready for my closeup now Mr. DeMille."

Thank you thank you! She looks really good from 10 feet away!
Will be very happy when the White stuff has melted today's 50 degrees will help.
I have no idea where the original pedals are...probably wrapped in a bag inside a box that's inside another box that's underneath a stack of boxes.....somewhere amongst the roomful of boxes.
Pedals ?? This things so fast you don't need pedals only good brakes!
