Trek 660 Road Bike

Trying to decide if this would be a good buy at $325. Would love to know some pros and cons from those out there that are a little more knowledgeable than I.

Go for it! Vintage Treks are great bikes and sell appropriately. I'd say this is a good deal but not a screaming good deal.

As far as opinions go, what were you looking for? Make sure the size is right, of course. What are you planning to use it for?

Quality frame (reynolds 531 frame), quality parts (mainly suntour superbe), and looks to be in reasonable shape. Not a bad deal at $325.

Is this the bike, 1985 Trek 660 ?

If you look at the info on the webpage with the trek brochure, this bike does not match up with the listed specs but there were a number of 1985 green Trek 660s with suntour superbe parts:

Vintage Trek Bicycle Catalogs and Bike Brochures, Fisher, Klein LeMond

325 is about tops for local, non ebay market. Having said that my 88 trek 560 is rock solid, just did another 35 mile commute on it and that bike is a real pleasure to ride. I would not sell for less than 350 if needed, but am pretty cheap when it comes to buying them. I will say overall treks seem to hold value way better than most vintage bikes.

I bought a 660 frame in that color about 5 years ago and built it with 9 speed and bar end shifters. Very nice ride with crit like handling. The price depends on your location but if it fit me and was in VGC I would not hesitate to pick it up. I loved mine but it was really 1 size too small so it moved on.

As mentioned vintage steel Treks hold their value. I believe I sold the frame for more than I paid. If you buy the bike possibly upgrade the brakes and ride the snot out of it.

I've got one, re-geared it for my old legs and hilly terrain. Real nice bike. I think I paid $175 for mine, but it was neglected and the tires were shot.

tmh657, something is wrong with your front end there. Your fork looks bent.

Maybe you didn't read the whole post. I sold that frame 4 years ago. The fork was not bent and didn't you know that in most photos forks are bent until proven otherwise

The price very good if not great for a nicer 531 framed Trek with superbe components. Actually the price seems a bit low but $300-350 seems to be a bit of ceiling for 80's road bikes on local CL sales.

Good thing that it is sold. I'm just saying....thats a straight on shot on a fork slightly displaced posteriorly if seen in person or not. I'm sure others would say the same. Might account for that crit like handling.

It looked bent to me too until I drew a straight line through it on Paint. Either way, trying to determine a TINY fork bend from one photo is a fool's errand.
