halp, 1987 cannondale

Hi, I'm looking to buy my first bike and this seems like a good deal.. but I'm a noob so I thought i would come here for some advice.

Can you do work on the bike? It is going to need to be overhauled...and, frankly, that front suspension thingie would give me a lot of pause. The price seems ok, you would have to assure that it is the right size for you...but, again...think about what you have to do to have it overhauled (regrease all bearings, replace tubes and maybe tires, replace cables, then adjust everything...probably $150-200 at the local bike shop, if you cannot do the work).

Then, again, there is that suspension thing...more things to go wrong...and for a newbie...I would keep looking, were I in your shoes

Pass... This is for a collector that wants to display it with that bizarre fork and not actually ride it. Or for the rider that wants to swap out that fork and put a normal fork on. Since it needs a new fork $250 is too much, plus the overhaul work it needs.

It looks like it may have been built by edward scissorhands. You say you are a noob so I would stay very far away from this contraption.
