1987 Schwinn Super Sport

Hello all,

I have recently found a rarely used 1987 Schwinn Super Sport at a local bike shop (shop was shut down for a 5+ years and he is opening it up this weekend to sell everything). The paint, frame, and components are in PRESTINE condition and everything literally looks brand new. The bike is equipped with Shimano SIS 600 components, Shimano 600 pedals, San Marco saddle, Cinelli stem and handlebars, Rigida rear wheel (not sure of the hubs).

Owner is asking $150-$180 for the complete bike. Worth it?

Here is a photo of the bike. The picture doesn't show its justice. But there is not a single scratch on the frame!

If it fits, I think it is worth it. You will more than likely meed new cables/housings/tires and some grease.

Great! I am going to go back tomorrow and double check for the fit. Cables, tires, and housings won't be an issue. I work at a local bike shop so I will be covered on that part. Thanks!

I would have purchased that immediately! But I've been looking for one for a bit, and have been known to be a bit impulsive... and overpay sometimes. I do think that is a reasonable price. In the Chicagoland market I would expect that to sell for $300.

That's an alternate color scheme to the "pepto" magenta rose.

The Super Sport was 2nd from the top of Schwinn's excellent road lineup for '87. Columbus Tenax frame (good), Shimano 600 components (great). And I actually like Biopace rings!

Print out the photo from the link above and use it as a checklist for the components. Looks like it has the original rear wheel, but where's the matching front?

If the parts are all original (or better), then that's a good price -- if it fits.

Does this guy have any more classics? In 58-60 cm frame size?

If it fits get that now!!!!!!!!! I've got an 88 Premis hanging over this comp monitor in the same size, a year later, a model or three down and at that price I'd still go buy it again.

This guys entire warehouse is filled with classics. It was actually the largest Schwinn dealer in the 70's. There are literally about 1,000 bikes in mint condition. Some are still in boxes and have never been built. I will find out more information and take pictures of everything tomorrow evening. I'll check on some sizes too!

Let me correct myself. It was one of the largest Schwinn dealers around the Tennessee area. The shop is located in Memphs, TN. I'll post pictures tomorrow of the entire shop!
