A man is selling me his old centurion bike. Lemans.
He is the original owner. Of this bicycle. Selling it for 60$. To me.
Is it a good buy. ?

as always it depends on market. around here you wont see a decent (which a centurion lemans is.) bike even in bad shape for 60 bucks. anything that you can ride at all is usually at 150.. as long as its not from target. Id probably give him 60 bucks for that bike and be pretty pleased if I could get it back on the road after another 60 or 70...
I am a bit biased as i quite like centurions.. I just picked up an ironman for $120 that needs work for sure.. but they are a worthy bike to spend some time and money on.

That's top dollar for that bike......a very plain jane specimen too......if it's a keeper; it's ok...if you're flipping; you'll have a marginal return...

I just paid $35 at a thrift store for one much like it in a frame size too large for me for the components. If it was a smaller frame and I was thinking to ride it I would have been very happy at $60, but mine was also in exceptional condition for the age.
I really like those big Suntour stem shifters and the upside down shifting on the FD. I like the Dia Compe brakes a lot too. They are all likely to end up on a less worthy Velo Sport frame when I get too it.
I think mine might be older than your example though - the wheels are different. High flange hubs on mine - though I don't know if they are original. Don't worry - I have plans for them too.
Now I am on the lookout for a set of 700c wheels with a flip flop hub so I can fit them this too tall frame so I can sell it to some too tall hipster down at the University.

As long as no broken spokes, no bad wheel hop or wobble, no bent chain rings $60 is a good price. You're going to have to put at least $200 in parts on it to get it back to prime condition. Hope you can do all the work yourself.

you can spend a lot and make it a decent bike, or you can spend pretty much nothing.. just grease it up and ride it. if you are just tootling about town and doing short rides to the grocery, or between classes on campus etc, it does not need to be all that great.
it reminds me of the old "communal bike" we had when I was in uni. If you saw it about you could just take it and leave it at the next spot.. and then it might be there, or gone.. if someone else came along. there were about 5 people who shared it.
this was not a high crime school.
