1970s Takara

Hey guys,

I'm looking to purchase this 1970s Takara, the seller has very limited information on it. Seems like a solid bike, steel frame, looking to eventually use it on a cross-country trip. I've attached an image of the bike.

He's looking to get $190 from it, from the research I've done it seems like I should be able to get it down to somewhere around $120, I'd love to hear thoughts, thanks!

Pass. He's easily asking double what it's worth given what a low-tier bike it is and what shape it's in. But asking them to slash their price is unrealistic and will just waste both of your time. Even getting down to $120 will be a chore unless it's been listed for a long time.

My advice is to only seriously look at the bikes you're willing to pay full price for. You can haggle with cash in person and if you reach a lower amount, it's a bonus.

+1

IMHO, I would pass because Takara has about 0.0% brand recognition. So even if you bought it for $75, put another $75 in parts on it, plus a half day or more of sweat equity, you still have a bike worth $125.

I'm not worried about it ever having any re-sell value, it just seemed like a heavier bike that could handle a few longer trips, but it's sounding like that may not even be the case.
