Colnago Super Frameset
I'm enquiring about a '78 era Super frameset that has been stored for the past 30+yrs. I havent seen it but am assuming the paint and condition is good. Any ideas on value?

As you know, condition of paint is critical. Without a visual, any range is just a WAG.

If a Campagnolo headset and bottom bracket, then $500. Is possible.
I consider 1975-1979 the dark period for Colnago. Much variation of construction and finish.

Turns out the bike is intact and is a certified barn find. Classic Italian with all the goodies! Here is a pic the original owner sent me. He has not ridden it since he captured a Michigan record back in '78 as a senior in high school. Still has the number tag on the brake cable! We'll see what happens.

Does the owner know what he has? Prices range from about $1000 - $1600 for a nice all-Campy Super of that era. I have a 78 myself in VGC, and I have to tell you, it's the nicest riding bike I've ever been on. It does everything well IMHO.
Good luck, keep us informed!

As a whole bike, unless there is a bidding war, it will be hard to get beyond $1,000 as it sits. Too much to do.
When fully cleaned and serviced, fresh tires, hoods, O rings on the brakes, brake blocks etc. $1,200-1,400. Some have sold for more, but the circumstances have to be right.
I think the numbered tag on the brake cable is a moving & storage tag or shop service tag.

Is the guy phishing for you to value the bike for him? Be careful....

The bike needs work but he may not see that as a devaluater. I'm hoping he isnt looking at the high-end stuff on Ebay.

No, purely my curiosity and wanting to see what you guys would say. Over the weekend he told me I would have to make him an offer. I did, and havent heard back yet.

Better ship that Miyata track bike down state to me for safekeeping. It's too hilly in Northern Michigan!

Owner not only accepted my offer but threw in 6 bikes, one of which is an '85 Miyata Pista track bike. After watching this situation for 4 years, I am totally stoked. Will have the bike in my possession by mid-summer and will undergo a complete disassembly and service. Oh, and getting schooled on sew-ups.
Thanx for the pricing tips!

The Colnago Super will be in my shop a week from this Sunday. Is it normal for me to be this excited? It's like Christmas as a little boy again! Sometimes I get distracted.

I have a colnago super 77 too! Mine is a bit beat-up, and without the original parts, but it's a wonderful bike to ride. Just out of curiousity, how much did you offer? Throwing in six bikes sounds a hell of a deal!

Congratulations! BTW, in my bike junkie opinion there is absolutely nothing strange about being so excited. I'm looking forward to seeing some pics of the bike all shined up, and to hearing a ride report.
