Columbia 1954 Five Star Superb fair selling price?

Hi folks,
I have what I believe to be a 1954 model Columbia Five Star Superb. I was thinking about trying to clean it up but I think I should just sell it as is, as cleaning it improperly could hurt its value. It has the springer fork that had a key but the key is missing. The seat is original but tore up and ratty. The Sturmy Archer front disc brake looks good but the brake handle as well as the fork needs rechromed in my estimation. It is missing the frame tank if it ever had one. Anyway I saw someone once asking almost 400.00 just for the fork on Ebay.

My question is. What do you, better in the know, think is a fair asking price for this old and very heavy bike???

Thanks
Max Bryant

If it is a men bike!!!
Check this bike, see what's missing on yours and the condition.
I don't know if he sold it for almost 600$, but I know that a month ago, one was sold locally in Ohio for 300$, complete but wrong chain guard and handle bars.
1954 Corsair Badged Columbia 5-Star Superb- $595 Delivered to Howes Cavern Show

Ask a question to Mr. Columbia, maybe he will give a fair price to sell: mrcolumbiaman@yahoo.com

If you make it parts you'll make more money on it.

Thanks for the insight. I was thinking it would be worth more if parted out but don't think I can find the time to do that. Maybe I need to find the time...

Yes it is a Mens bike

Thanks
Max

An asking price doesn't always indicate selling price, unless you look at Ended and Sold listings.

Also, the condition of the parts is critical.

When parting out a road bike, the parts can apply to a large variety of bikes.
When parting out your bike... the parts really only apply to someone building that exact bike.

You could easily get slammed with penny auctions if you start a bid type auction for pieces with a low starting price.

Anyway, post some pics of your bike. If it is in too rough of shape and missing too many parts, then perhaps parting it out is best, but don't expect to get top dollar for rusty parts.
