1983 Ciocc - Way Too Much?

CIOCC 1983 Road Bike Full Campangnolo group

To indulge my curiosity, as well as learn a few new things, it seems to me this person is asking WAY too much for this bicycle. Am I correct? I'm not familiar with Ciocc bicycles, beyond doing some light Googling. Looking at sold prices for similar looking bikes on sites like eBay, even classic frames upgraded with modern Campagnolo components sell for half as much sometimes. Is there something special about this bicycle or just a classic case of someone hoping for the best? I'm not looking to buy, the price just struck me as highly optimistic for what I am seeing.

Ciocc is one of my favorite bikes. Theyre great riders, but he's asking way to much.

Everyone with a Ciocc seems to think it's worth at least two grand

Are they actually selling for that much? I doubt it, but I have no idea.

I hate ads like that. He wants us to pay a premium price but is too lazy to detail why this bike deserves a premium price tag. For two grand I want a museum-quality classic Italian bike with a paint job that stops traffic.

Can't spell, can't give dimensions, so why would you believe he can price it correctly?

I'd say that's at least double what it's worth.

I don't see anything exceptional about the bike that would make it worth more than $800-1000 which seems to be about the going rate for a nicer high end Italian bike from this time frame with NR/SR campy stuff.

Bikes: No-name LH drive track. Also ride an Exxon Graftek, a Masi, a Trek R200 or a RR Boneshaker for fun!

Exactly. The badly scuffed leather bar wrap is a real price-booster!

I have a 1988 Ciocc Designer 84 that I haggled to $310 in Phoenix. Seller wanted $600 originally. Ended up being a real pristine beauty under all the road grime and storage dust. Ebay shows them over 1 grand +. This example looks to be the same as my 88 with hard to find Colombus SLX tubing. Would I pay $1500? No 'cause I'm a skinflint. Someone who wanted a CIOCC and had to have it? Yes. Mine is all Campy except for the shifters (600 SIS) which the former owner had intelligently added. These were generally bought as frame only and parts picked from the bin. The ride is superb! One of the quickest steel bikes ever. Better than my Lejeune, Pinarello and Colnago. I don't feel like I'm the owner, more a caretaker. CIOCC should be a collector name but only the cognoscenti have heard of it. This CL example obviously need some minor work including that corncob freewheel. Changed mine out to 28 to tackle the hills. Be aware that the Campy crankset is a 42 and is not interchangeable with a 40. I see your post is about a month ago and perhaps today you are a proud CIOCC owner. Mine gets compliments on every ride. I like the stealth look in lieu of the bling look. People who know, know. You can't do much better than CIOCC. Good luck fellow cyclist.
