Help me identify a KHS bike

I got it for $80 bucks

I can't find any information of this bike anywhere, the decal says classic and has Suntour rear dropouts, fork doesn't seem to be stock as it needed a couple spacers.

Apparently it came with a shimano 600 groupset but some components were upgraded.

Components:
-Mavic open pro rims (32s) laced to shimano ultegra hubs (cassette) 9speed (currently 7spd)
-Shimano 600 downtube shifters (indexed for rear)
-Shimano 600 derrailleurs
-Shimano 600 headset
-Shimano 600 brakes
-Shimano 600 pedals
-Sugino triple crank

Thanks in advance.

Great buy! I would guess with a pit bull you would need to lock it up either.

I always keep my bikes stored inside with lock and my pitbull is the most friendly dog ever

I know! the rims and hubs are like brand new, hubs are super smooth and frame is in overall excelent shape with almost zero rust (only some small chips) the only components i added to the bike are the kool stop brake shoes wich i love! shimano 105 brake levers, suntour stem, road handlebars and upgraded the shimano 600 front derrailleur with a dura ace. It weights arround 22 pounds.

Nice looking bike. I don't think KHS bikes were ever huge so it may be awhile until someone who knows the brand see this. Is that a word on the top tube or just some graphics.

Yeah, i totally love the 80s paint scheme, i didn't even know khs made bikes long ago but the ride quality is as good as my specialized sequoia from 80s wich is heavier but solid, both are chromoly frames.

Someone who for some reason tries to stay anonymous gave me this information and i want to share it because i couldn't find any information about vintage khs road bikes.

While I don't have many KHS serial numbers in my database to corroborate the format, based on the serial number, I would think it should be a 1988 model manufactured in September 1987. I went back and double checked the 1988 specs and it definitely mentions only one water bottle.

I'm wondering if they changed the specs shortly after they released the literature, to keep abreast of the competition. The 1988 Classic had a MSRP of $329-$384 and some of its direct competition, such as the Fuji Sagre SP ($329-$375) and Nishiki Olympic ($350), were spec'd with dual bottle bosses.

Regardless, the very late 1980s time frame seems right and OEM was SunTour 3040/3050 derailleurs with an unspecified Sugino double crankset Dia-Compe 400N brakes and KK hubs laced to Araya SS-45 rims. The 1987/1988 SunTour Accushift did not perform well relative to the Shimano SIS, so the Shimano upgrade isn't much of a surprise. I trust his helps
Thanks for the information!
